Part Time Tracheostomy information

What is the difference between Part Time Tracheostomy and Part Time Respiratory Therapist?

AspectPart Time TracheostomyPart Time Respiratory Therapist
CredentialsTypically requires certification in tracheostomy care, such as a specialized nursing or medical certificationRequires Respiratory Therapist (RT) license or certification
Work EnvironmentHospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities focusing on airway managementHospitals, clinics, home care settings focusing on respiratory support
Job FocusManaging tracheostomy care, airway maintenance, patient educationAssessing respiratory function, ventilator management, breathing treatments

While both roles involve respiratory care, Part Time Tracheostomy specialists focus specifically on airway management and tracheostomy care, whereas Part Time Respiratory Therapists provide broader respiratory support and ventilator management. The roles often overlap in healthcare settings but differ in certification requirements and primary responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part-Time Tracheostomy Nurse, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part-Time Tracheostomy Nurse, you need strong clinical skills in airway management, tracheostomy care, and emergency response, supported by nursing credentials such as an RN or LPN license. Familiarity with suctioning equipment, ventilator support systems, and electronic health records is typically required. Compassion, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for providing sensitive and precise care to patients with tracheostomies. These skills ensure patient safety, prevent complications, and foster trust with both patients and their families.

What are the typical responsibilities and challenges for a part-time tracheostomy nurse?

As a part-time tracheostomy nurse, your primary responsibilities include monitoring patients with tracheostomies, performing routine trach care (such as suctioning and cleaning), and educating patients and families on proper home care techniques. A unique challenge in a part-time role is ensuring continuity of care and effective communication with the full-time care team, as well as staying updated on each patient's changing condition. Collaboration with respiratory therapists, physicians, and family members is essential to provide safe and effective care while maintaining flexibility in your work schedule.

What is a part-time tracheostomy nurse?

A part-time tracheostomy nurse is a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse who specializes in caring for patients with a tracheostomy, working less than full-time hours. These nurses are responsible for monitoring and maintaining the tracheostomy tube, providing suctioning, cleaning, and ensuring the airway remains clear. They also educate patients and families on tracheostomy care, respond to emergencies, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals. Part-time positions allow nurses flexibility while still offering vital support to patients in hospitals, clinics, or home care settings.

Job description

Job Title: Private Duty Nurse (LPN/RN) - Consistent 12-Hour Day Shifts
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and music-loving nurse to join a dedicated home care team for a 30-year-old male client. This role is ideal for a clinician who enjoys a peaceful, one-on-one environment; the home is pet-free, organized, and managed by a very supportive and kind father. The client is non-verbal but mobile, requiring a nurse who is proficient in Tracheostomy and G-Tube care while being active enough to accompany him on outdoor walks and engage with his love for music.
Care Requirements & Personality
Our client is an active young man who communicates non-verbally and thrives on routine. Key responsibilities include:
  • Clinical Care: Expert management of a Tracheostomy (suctioning, site care) and G-Tube (feedings and medications).
  • Safety & Mobility: Providing standby assistance and supervision while he moves about the home or enjoys the outdoors.
  • Engagement: He has a deep love for music and spending time outside. We are looking for a nurse who is happy to integrate these interests into his daily care plan.
The Home Environment
  • Supportive Family: The client's father is known for being exceptionally kind and easy to work with, fostering a respectful professional atmosphere.
  • Pet-Free: This is a clean, allergen-free home with no pets.
  • Stability: This is not a "floater" position. The schedule remains fixed and predictable unless a fellow nurse requests time off.
Schedule & Availability
We are looking to fill the following 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM shifts:
  • Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Candidates may apply for all four days or a specific block of days.
Qualifications
  • Active LPN or RN License.
  • Direct experience with Trach and G-Tube care is required.
  • Strong reliability and a desire for a long-term, stable placement.
  • An upbeat, patient personality that resonates with a music-loving client.

Schedule & Pay
  • Full-time and part-time shifts available
  • Day, night, and weekend shifts
  • Weekly pay + optional daily pay
  • Competitive pay based on experience
Why Work at Centria?
  • 1:1 Patient Care
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Paid training and shadow shifts
  • 24/7 clinical support
  • Career advancement opportunities
  • Health benefits and Sick Time for eligible employees
Qualifications
  • Active RN or LPN license in the state of Michigan
  • Home care or private duty experience preferred (not required)
  • Trach/vent experience is a plus (training provided)
  • Strong communication and critical thinking skills

  • Pediatrics (birth-21 years)
  • Adults with complex medical needs
