Job Title: Investigator- Part Time- Sexual Offender Review Board- Atlanta

JOB SUMMARY

The Investigator is responsible for obtaining the necessary criminal documents for the Clinical Evaluators who conduct a legislatively guided risk classification of registered sex offenders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Initiating Case Development

• Create an activity sheet reflecting beginning to end actions taken for each case.
• Review the offender's criminal history to determine the criminal documents that need to be requested.
• Determine the relevant government or other authorized agency from which the necessary documents can be obtained.

Contacting Stakeholders

• Search databases that SORRB has been given access to.
• Generate records requests for those cases that are not located in accessible databases.
• Contact Clerks of Court, district attorneys, victim advocates, Department of Community Supervision, police departments, sheriff's offices and/or any other agency that can provide requested documents.
• Monitor progress of each case, regularly following up on each case.
• Make additional requests from agencies when requested by SORRB's Clinical Evaluators.
• Travel within the State of Georgia to obtain documents when necessary (valid driver's license is required).

Review of Criminal Documentation - All documents received are reviewed to determine relevance and to ensure all necessary information for each offense is included. If information is missing, additional steps are taken to obtain that documentation. Each case requires exhausting all options before moving on from a case.

Finalizing Cases - Once the documentation is verified, the activity sheet is finalized, cover sheets are generated for each arrest/investigation, and documents are combined in an orderly fashion creating a final packet that is uploaded to the SORRB database and cleared.

Attending Meetings - Investigators attend meetings as instructed by supervisors and are typically held online, although some mandatory meetings are held at the SORRB office.

Attending Trainings - All new hires are required to attend a minimum of one week of in-person training. Training is used to provide the investigator with everything that is needed to provide the Clinical Evaluators with a comprehensive packet of information. There is feedback monthly and then quarterly for the first year, which is a probationary period for employment in this position. After that year, it is expected that an investigator can complete approximately 20 cases a month. Ongoing training, both in-office and online, is used to sharpen skills, reduce errors, and process optimization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience. - Basic knowledge of criminal justice procedures with various law enforcement stakeholders.

Writing - researching accurate information, outlining for logical flow, and editing for clarity and conciseness.

Computer Knowledge - basic hardware operations to utilizing specialized software for productivity.

• File management (includes creating, renaming, and organizing folders).
• Word processing (includes creating and formatting text documents, adjusting margins, and using spelling/grammar tools using applications like Microsoft Word, PDF, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Email etiquette (includes responsivity to receiving emails, composing subject lines, attaching files, managing inboxes).
• Video conferencing (includes joining or hosting online meetings, muting/unmuting, and sharing your screen).
• Internet & Cybersecurity (including browser navigation using bookmarks and cybersecurity awareness by recognizing phishing attempts and use of secure passwords).
• Hardware (includes touch typing with acceptable speed and accuracy).

Education - High School diploma and 2 years law enforcement or related experience.
