Description
JOB SUMMARY
KCC is currently seeking an Adjunct HVAC Instructor. This position will support Klamath Community College, its Apprenticeship programs, and surrounding service areas. The HVAC Instructor will provide both classroom instruction and hands-on lab training in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The instructor will emphasize safe work practices, industry standards, and technical competency required for success in the HVAC trade.
This role is responsible for preparing apprentices and students for workforce entry and/or continued apprenticeship advancement through structured curriculum delivery and practical skills development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the position description satisfactorily.   • Instruct HVAC apprentices and students using approved curriculum (including NCCER or equivalent)
  • Deliver classroom lectures and hands-on lab instruction in HVAC/R systems
  • Demonstrate safe and proper use of HVAC tools, equipment, and diagnostic instruments
  • Coordinate lab activities including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair exercises
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, codes, and industry standards
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document student progress and competency attainment
  • Assist with student placement, apprenticeship coordination, and industry readiness
  • Maintain required documentation for accreditation, testing, and apprenticeship reporting
  • Proctor and support online testing and performance assessments
  • Maintain instructional equipment, lab organization, and inventory

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate in curriculum development and program advisory meetings as requested
  • Support recruitment and outreach efforts for HVAC and apprenticeship programs
  • Maintain relationships with local employers and industry partners
  • Other duties as assigned
  • If assigned, this position may require administrative work on grant-funded program activities and reporting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE
Required:
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC/R systems including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Understanding of electrical principles as applied to HVAC systems
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Effective instructional and classroom management skills
  • Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to work with adult learners of varying skill levels
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with NCCER or standardized HVAC curriculum
  • Experience working in apprenticeship or workforce development environments
  • Strong mentoring and coaching abilities
  • Industry engagement with contractors or HVAC employers

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Combination of classroom, lab, and field-based instructional environments
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and hands-on demonstration of HVAC tasks
  • Exposure to mechanical systems, tools, refrigerants, and shop environments
  • May require evening or weekend instruction depending on program needs
  • Frequent interaction with students, faculty, and industry partners
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • EPA Section 608 Certification.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical systems, or related skilled trades in both residential and commercial systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in HVAC systems, safe work practices, and diagnostic procedures
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred:
  • NCCER Instructor Certification or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Prior teaching, mentoring, or training experience in a technical or vocational setting
  • OSHA 30 and CPR/First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Experience with apprenticeship programs or workforce development systems
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, databases, and instructional/testing platforms)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and instructional skills in hands-on learning environments
  • Ability to meet credentialing requirements under contract or accrediting bodies
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and working in varied environmental conditions

Supplemental Information
Salary: Compensation is established by the KCCFA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Initial salary placement is determined according to the negotiated salary schedule and applicable contract provisions.
