Description
The Teen Specialist is responsible for supporting the planning, execution, and supervision of youth programming and activities that promote positive development, engagement, and safety. This role plays a key part in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for teen members ages 12 to 18, while ensuring all organizational policies and procedures are followed. The Teen Specialist is accountable for assisting with program events, tracking member attendance, and reporting programming updates to the Site Director. Strong engagement skills are essential, as the role involves building positive relationships with members, providing encouragement, and fostering a safe and respectful atmosphere.
Hiring for several locations.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Programming:
  • Accountable for assisting and supporting programming and program events

Reporting:
  • Accountable for tracking member attendance in the member management system
  • Accountable for reporting on programming and activities to the site director

Engagement:
  • Build and nurture rapport by actively engaging with members in a respectful and empathetic manner
  • Provide guidance, support, and encouragement to members

Transportation:
  • Transport members in compliance with safety guidelines to and from programming, activities, and events
  • Accountable for operating vehicles in a safe manner
  • Accountable for reporting vehicle incidents and completing documentation within the required time frame

Facility and Child Safety:
  • Accountable for adherence to all organizational health and safety policies and implementation of all safety practices and procedures at assigned work locations
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect participants, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Abide by facility maintenance protocols and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Accountable for reporting incidents and completing documentation within the required timeline
  • Maintain discipline, de-escalate conflict between participants and/or others
  • Obtain and renew CPR and First Aid certification by the deadline

Relationships:
  • Be a positive role model
  • Maintain control and make good decisions under pressure
  • Represent the Boys and Girls Club in a positive manner

Attendance:
  • Regular attendance is required; arrive on time, work the required hours/shift, and leave at the scheduled time

Nonessential Duties:
  • Complete all other duties as assigned

Requirements
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year experience with youth (professional or volunteer), experience with teens preferred

Minimum Requirements:
  • Ability to work evening and night hours
  • Ability to be a positive role model
  • Ability to connect with others quickly; ability to establish rapport and build relationships
  • Ability to facilitate, instruct, and mentor
  • Ability to follow instructions and conform to policies and procedures
  • Ability to relate to at-risk youth
  • Ability to set expectations and boundaries
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of technology and software, such as tablets, social media, cloud-based tools, and virtual meeting tools
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Must be able to pass agency background screens and drug screens at any time
  • Must have reliable transportation, liability insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and a valid driver's license for operation of a motor vehicle relevant to carrying out duties

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual
  • Some college
  • Work experience with or program knowledge of the Boys & Girls Club Movement (national and/or local Club) is an advantage

Pay & Benefits:
  • Pay: $15.00 per hour
  • Benefits: Eligible for paid time off (PTO) and holiday pay
