Job description

Job Summary:

Decatur Catholic Charities is seeking a part-time school counselor passionate about helping children, adolescents, and teens reach their full potential. The School Assistance Program, which is a component of the Professional Counseling Solutions Program, provides in-person counseling services to area parochial schools. Candidates must have an MSW or closely related degree and be working toward licensure (LCSW, LCPC, or LMFT). Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance. Daily driving to local schools is required. This is a part-time position at 28 hours a week during the 10-month school year, with summers off. This position has the potential to become full-time with counseling services being offered to children, teens, couples, and families in an office setting. Detailed Job Description:

Actively listen and engage clients to assess their treatment needs. Develop treatment plan goals with the client and provide appropriate interventions to meet these desired outcomes. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of mental health disorders and best practice treatment modalities. Receive training and clinical supervision in comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, therapeutic intervention techniques, and applicable laws, rules, and regulations. All under the direction of a clinical supervisor.

1. Receive referrals for service and provide direct client contact and counseling to children, adolescents, and teens in need.

2. Provide group counseling services and workshops within assigned areas as this need is generated within the clinical population.

3. Provide consultation to other program staff as needed or required.

4. Maintain functional interface with other agency programs and community service organizations for appropriate referral and effective case planning.

5. Complete case-related forms and summaries and other agency reporting requirements.

6. Participate in regular clinical supervision

7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Master’s degree in human service area or related field (preferably an MSW).

2. One year of supervised experience in direct provision of clinical counseling.

3. Familiarity with family systems theory and practice.

4. Demonstrated personal attributes of maturity, autonomy, and responsibility.
