Job description

NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) is seeking qualified applicants to establish a pool for part-time and/or substitute instructors to teach foundational courses in Artificial Intelligence as part of the college's Certificate of Proficiency and Associate of Applied Science in Artificial Intelligence programs, and future AI programs. These courses introduce students to the principles, history, tools, and workplace applications of AI. The ideal candidate will demonstrate both technical expertise and the ability to create engaging, accessible learning experiences that prepare students to use AI responsibly and effectively across a range of industries. This role also offers opportunities to contribute to program development and collaborate with industry partners to ensure curriculum relevance and workforce alignment.
Job Description

Essential Duties:

  • Deliver engaging and student-centered instruction aligned with NWACC's approved AI curriculum and learning outcomes.

  • Introduce students to foundational AI concepts, terminology, and real-world applications across business, education, healthcare, and technology.

  • Facilitate discussions on the ethical, social, and economic implications of artificial intelligence.

  • Demonstrate practical use of AI tools and platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, Perplexity) and guide students in hands-on projects.

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work and assessments.

  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance in accordance with college policies.

  • Stay current with emerging AI tools and integrate new technologies into instruction where appropriate.

  • Participate in required orientation, meetings, and professional development activities.

  • Use the college's learning management system (LMS) to post materials, communicate with students, and assess assignments.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, innovation, and responsible use of AI technologies.

Rate of Pay: $765 per credit hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Business Analytics, or a related field

  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience with artificial intelligence concepts and tools (e.g., machine learning, generative AI, data analytics, prompt engineering)

  • Strong communication and instructional skills appropriate for college-level teaching

  • A combination of education and significant industry experience (minimum five years) may be considered in place of formal degree requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related discipline or combination of education and industry experience in AI, data science, or emerging technologies

  • Teaching experience at the college or adult education level, including experience with online and hybrid platforms such as Zoom, Teams, or Canvas

  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical AI practices and the responsible use of emerging technologies

  • Industry certifications or practical experience with AI-driven applications, data visualization, or applied data analytics

  • Experience using AI tools for productivity, creative applications, or data analysis

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of AI applications and tools used across multiple industries

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design for technology-based courses

  • Knowledge of college policies, FERPA, and online education best practices

  • Ability to deliver complex technical content clearly to diverse learners

  • Ability to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills in diverse student populations

  • Excellent communication, adaptability, and collaboration skills

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

This position requires regular use of computers and other instructional technology. The instructor must be able to sit, stand, walk, speak, and hear routinely. Visual acuity is required for reading, grading, and computer-based tasks. Work is typically performed in a professional office or classroom setting with moderate noise levels and standard lighting and temperature. Occasional travel to other instructional sites or events may be required.

Work Environment:

Instruction may be delivered in-person, hybrid, or online, depending on program needs. Evening or weekend availability may be required.
