What is a part time surgical LPN?

Part Time Surgical LPNs are Licensed Practical Nurses who work reduced hours, typically assisting surgical teams in operating rooms or related settings. Their duties include preparing patients for surgery, sterilizing instruments, monitoring patient vitals, and providing post-operative care, all while working fewer hours than a full-time nurse. They play a vital role in supporting surgeons and ensuring patient safety during surgical procedures. Part time roles offer flexibility, which may be ideal for individuals balancing other commitments or pursuing further education.

What does a part time surgical LPN do?

As a Part Time Surgical LPN, your daily responsibilities often include preparing patients for surgery, assisting with preoperative and postoperative care, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring that surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and organized. You work closely with surgeons, registered nurses, and anesthesiologists, contributing to the smooth flow of surgical procedures and patient safety. Your attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively with the surgical team are crucial for maintaining a sterile environment and responding quickly to any patient needs.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a part time surgical LPN?

To thrive as a Part Time Surgical LPN, you need a valid LPN license, knowledge of surgical procedures, and experience in perioperative care. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), sterilization equipment, and operating room protocols is typically required. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities are crucial to ensure patient safety, support surgical teams, and maintain efficient surgical operations.
