This role is part of Leman Manhattan's vibrant, collaborative learning community, which delivers an engaging and academically rigorous program for all students.

Key Responsibilities:
(The primary tasks, functions and deliverables of the role)
  • Attend precamp meetings
  • Provide ongoing supervision of campers with the support of counselors
  • Supervise daily arrival and dismissal of your campers, including monitoring of authorized pick up list; submit daily camper attendance
  • Create and maintain a positive group/classroom culture (ex: morning meetings & closing circles, fun lineup procedures, call & response cheers, cubby & wall decor, etc); keep classroom orderly and respect the spaces you are using
  • Accompany group to different activities and provide support as needed
  • Maintain communication with families via email (and phone calls when necessary), beginning with welcome letter sent the week prior to camp
  • Ensure that group is following their schedule appropriately and is punctual to activities
  • Ensure that all camp safety protocols are being followed
  • Monitor dietary needs and other specific needs within your group
  • Serve as a model and mentor to the counselors assigned to your group. Provide ongoing guidance and support as you teach best practices to the staff. Delegate responsibilities when possible to build competencies of counselors
  • Provide ongoing feedback and updates about your group to the Camp Director/Assistant Director
  • Perform other tasks to support the program as assigned by Director/Assistant Director

Qualifications:
  • Must be a professional teacher, school counselor, or other educational professional
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Masters Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling or related field is preferred
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written)

Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a classroom
  • Experience working with the age group to which you are assigned
  • Preferred that candidates have worked at and attended summer camp settings previously
