What Are Jobs for Students Working Part-Time?

As a student, part-time jobs include positions like a tutor, assistant, server, or retail salesperson. Most jobs for students are flexible entry-level roles that offer both skills training and hourly work. Most of these jobs occur in the afternoons and evening since you are expected to be in class earlier in the day, but weekend jobs can have longer hours. In this context, part-time means fewer than 40 hours per week; it is entirely possible to have shifts of eight hours or longer on some days. The majority of part-time jobs for students focus on jobs that can be done with a minimal amount of training, though it is often possible to move into a senior position with more responsibilities after several months on the job.

What are part-time students?

Part-time students are individuals who are enrolled in an educational institution but take fewer courses or credits than full-time students. This typically means they attend classes for fewer hours per week and may take longer to complete their degree or program. Part-time study allows students to balance education with other commitments, such as work or family responsibilities. Many colleges and universities offer flexible schedules and course options to accommodate part-time students.

Job description

Description:

Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation’s Capital is an independent, community Jewish day school that currently offers a dual curriculum of General and Judaic studies for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The school is distinguished by its commitment to academic excellence, talented faculty, and learning that is joyful, engaging, experiential, and enduring. MILTON is a warm, vibrant, pluralistic Jewish day school where students, families, and faculty mirror the diversity of Jewish practice in the community. The school serves more than 475 students at our Kay and Robert Schattner Center Campuses — the beautiful South Campus for Early Childhood students in Grades PK–1, and the newly renovated and expanded North Campus for Elementary and Middle School students in Grades 2–8.

MILTON is seeking a part-time 7th Grade History Teacher to join the Middle School team. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who wishes to design and teach a dynamic and intellectually engaging history curriculum for middle school learners. The course follows a global and thematic arc, beginning with the study of Medieval Europe and Africa, and then “crossing the ocean” to explore the Age of Exploration and the Atlantic World, including systems such as encomienda and the development of slavery, culminating in a study of the American Civil War. The curriculum emphasizes historical thinking, critical analysis, and meaningful connections across time and place.

Serving as a teacher at MILTON means more than showing up in a classroom to deliver instruction. Rich mission-aligned content, creative pedagogy, and authentic relationships are essential components of a MILTON classroom, as is working collaboratively with colleagues and placing students’ interests and experiences at the heart of the MILTON experience. We expect our teachers to provide developmentally appropriate and scaffolded opportunities to challenge students intellectually while supporting their growth as thoughtful and engaged learners. Teachers at MILTON build strong relationships with students both in and beyond the classroom and contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and collegial community.

This part-time position includes teaching one section of 7th grade history that meets four times per week, consisting of four 40-minute periods, allowing for a combination of discussion, project-based learning, and deeper inquiry.

We seek candidates who bring a passion for history, strong pedagogical skills, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom environment where complex and sometimes challenging topics are explored with care, nuance, and respect. Ideal candidates will demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and a collaborative spirit, and will be eager to contribute to a vibrant and innovative Middle School program.
