Job Summary
The Department of Social Sciences is seeking applications for in-person adjunct faculty in Political Science.
The adjunct instructor is responsible for the planning, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities.
Qualified adjuncts must have a Master's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
Prior teaching experience in higher education preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duty/Responsibility
  • Prepares and delivers in-person instruction on topics in American Federal Government, State and Local Government, and other courses on the University's main campus in Athens, WV.
  • Compiles, administers, evaluates, and grades students' assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently and keeps students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
  • Contributes to General Education and Program Assessment through the collection and reporting of course data.
  • Develops curricula and instructional material such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Maintains office hours for students seeking academic advice, assist in student recruitment and retention, and assists students with course-related problems outside of the classroom.
  • Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with federal FERPA regulations.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean.

  • Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student-centered learning; experience interacting successfully with academically and culturally diverse student populations.
