Position Summary

The Carpenter is responsible for building, fitting, repairing, and modifying wood and composite structures, fixtures, crates, and packaging used in the manufacturing process. This role supports production by fabricating custom wood components, shipping crates, jigs, and structural supports to specification, while maintaining a safe and efficient work area.


Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, work orders, and specifications to determine dimensions, materials, and construction methods.
  • Measure, mark, and cut lumber, plywood, and composite materials using hand and power tools (table saws, miter saws, band saws, routers, planers).
  • Build and assemble wood crates, skids, pallets, and packaging structures for shipping large or oversized manufactured products (e.g., pipe assemblies, industrial equipment).
  • Fabricate jigs, fixtures, forms, and templates used to support production and quality processes.
  • Install hardware such as hinges, brackets, fasteners, and reinforcements as required.
  • Perform repairs and modifications to existing wood structures, workbenches, storage racks, and packaging.
  • Select appropriate materials based on load requirements, durability, and cost.
  • Operate and maintain woodworking equipment, ensuring proper function and reporting any needed repairs.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, machine guarding, and safe material handling practices.
  • Inspect finished work for accuracy, structural integrity, and compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S/housekeeping standards.
  • Collaborate with production, shipping, and engineering teams to meet project deadlines.
  • Accurately track material usage and complete required production documentation.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience carpentry, cabinetry, crating, or industrial woodworking preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of load-bearing and structural requirements for crating/shipping.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and job orders.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand work instructions, safety procedures, and production documentation in English required.
  • Strong measurement accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently
  • Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings (e.g., lifting assessment, vision test, hearing test, fitness for duty test, etc.)
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment
  • Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects

Work Environment

Manufacturing floor with exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp materials, and moderate to loud

noise. May be exposed to hot or cold environments depending on season. Work schedule may include

overtime or weekend shifts as needed.
