Job description


Role Summary

Pharmacy Technician responsibilities may include the following: compounding sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical preparations under the supervision of the compounding pharmacist; performing fulfillment of data entry and prescription processing, and/or assisting and supporting laboratory technicians in prescription compounding and fulfillment activities. This position reports to the department team lead.

Job Activities and Responsibilities: The responsibilities listed below are subject to change.

  • Must have knowledge of and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures and applicable state laws and regulations
  • Technician shall work under the supervision of a pharmacist
  • Technicians may be first point of contact for customers, so it is very important that customers are greeted and assisted in a friendly and professional manner
  • Checking prescriptions for completeness and entering necessary information into the computer to generate a prescription label and invoices (if necessary)
  • Filling and labeling prescriptions and prepackaging bulk medications and various types of medication and ancillary kits
  • Communicating with prescribers to receive refill authorization receiving patient refills by telephone, directing calls or taking and relaying messages
  • Receives patient refills and payments by telephone, directing calls or taking and relaying messages Assisting team lead with organization and appearance of the pharmacy front-end, ordering and pricing front-end merchandise.
  • May also include sterile and non-sterile compounding may include but is not limited to the compounding of capsules, oral liquids, topical medications, nasal preparations, suppositories, troches, tablet triturates, lollipops, and sterile compounded products
  • Investigating an incidence and/or variance as needed, documenting variances as needed including the resolution
  • Other duties as determined by department team lead

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be licensed by the State you are applying to work in as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Ability to navigate basic computer operating systems
  • must have at least 3 years of pharmacy experience
  • must be able to work full time immediately upon hire

Physical Requirements:

  • Proficient in using a computer and related equipment, including printers and fax machines.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Effective communication skills via telephone and email.
  • Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds as needed.
  • 20/20 vision (with or without corrective aids) required for visual inspection of drug products, in accordance with legal requirements.
