This opportunity is being recruited by The Nuclear Company on behalf of Duke Energy Lark Maintenance. While most of our services opportunities support outage and field work, this position is a direct-hire opportunity with one of our trusted industry partners.
If selected, you will be hired directly as a full-time, permanent employee of Duke Energy Lark Maintenance. They are responsible for compensation, benefits, payroll, work schedules, supervision, onboarding, workplace policies, and all other terms and conditions of employment.
For this opportunity our role is to identify qualified candidates, coordinate the interview process, and support both candidates and our client throughout the hiring process.
About the role
The Turbine Diaphragm Welder will be responsible for the repair, fabrication, and refurbishment of steam turbine diaphragms and related components used in power generation facilities. This is a highly specialized position requiring precision welding expertise and a strong working knowledge of steam turbine internals
Responsibilities
  • Perform TIG (GTAW) and other welding processes on steam turbine diaphragms, including nozzle repair, partition weld refurbishment, and structural weld repairs on inner and outer rings
  • Fabricate and repair diaphragm components including nozzles, spacer bands, sidewalls, and seal segments using stainless steel, Inconel, carbon steel, and other alloy materials
  • Assess and repair damage modes including foreign object damage, solid-particle erosion, moisture erosion, cracking, and structural weld failure
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld procedure specifications (WPS), and work instructions to execute repairs to OEM tolerances
  • Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment including TIG/MIG machines, grinders, and plasma cutting torches
  • Perform pre- and post-weld heat treatment as required per engineering specifications
  • Conduct dimensional inspections and quality checks using precision measuring instruments to verify compliance with engineering specifications
  • Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and quality personnel to plan repair sequences and prioritize workload
  • Document work completed including weld records, traveler sheets, and quality inspection reports
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with all facility safety policies and applicable regulations
  • Assist with other turbine component repairs as assigned, including blade rings, casings, seals, and rotating components

Experience / Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in precision or industrial welding, preferably in power generation, turbine repair, or heavy manufacturing
  • Proficiency in TIG (GTAW) welding on stainless steel, Inconel, and alloy materials is required
  • Demonstrated experience reading and working from engineering drawings, blueprints, and weld procedure specifications
  • Knowledge of steam turbine diaphragm construction styles including spacer-band, fillet fabrication, and mechanically assembled designs
  • Familiarity with weld inspection methods including visual inspection and liquid penetrant testing (PT)
  • Ability to use precision measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform close-tolerance work consistently
  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a welding program or apprenticeship preferred

Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS (American Welding Society) certification or equivalent
  • Experience with post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) procedures
  • Prior work in a nuclear, fossil, or combined-cycle power plant maintenance environment
  • Familiarity with GE, Siemens, Westinghouse, or other OEM turbine diaphragm designs
  • Experience with MIG (GMAW), plasma cutting, and oxy-acetylene processes

Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time position employed by Lark and based at their Mount Holly, North Carolina facility.
  • Competitive pay: $35-$38/hour, based on experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Opportunities for career growth and advancement
