This role focuses on delivering personalized, one-on-one tutoring sessions that address each student's specific challenges with vocabulary, grammar, evidence-based reading, and rhetorical analysis.
As the SAT transitions to a digital format, familiarity with the Bluebook testing app and the adaptive nature of the test is essential. Tutors will guide students through strategies tailored to the digital environment, including pacing, module difficulties, and effective use of the digital interface.
Tutoring sessions can be conducted in students' homes, online across New Jersey, or at our Livingston office. We accommodate your preferred travel radius for in-person sessions.
Requirements

  • Strong content knowledge in English language conventions, grammar, vocabulary, rhetorical skills, and evidence-based reading comprehension.
  • Demonstrated student score improvements on SAT verbal sections; experience sharing concrete examples during the interview.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in English, education, linguistics, or related fields; teaching certification is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage and motivate high school students and communicate progress and strategies clearly to parents.
  • Availability for after-school, evening, and weekend tutoring hours, especially in peak test prep seasons (spring and fall).
  • Comfortable with educational technology such as Zoom or Google Meet, digital materials sharing, and progress tracking tools.
  • Reliable transportation for in-home sessions within your preferred travel radius.
Nice to Have
  • Experience teaching high school English, SAT prep, or test-taking strategies.
  • Familiarity with PSAT/NMSQT preparation and National Merit qualifying strategies.
  • Ability to tutor small groups in a classroom or cohort setting.
  • Bilingual language skills (Spanish, Mandarin, or other languages common to our communities).
