Position Summary:

This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization. Under the guidance of the Health & Wellness Director, the Sports Instructor is responsible for providing support in the organization, delivery and quality of YMCA program(s) to the membership, program participants, and community. This position works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks. The incumbent accepts, demonstrates and teaches the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, and respect and responsibility.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $15.50/hour, Part-time non-exempt
  • YMCA Membership Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following: โˆ™ Instructs the program activities and aids program growth. โˆ™ Responsible for creating lesson plans and facilitating towards their class. โˆ™ Responsible for equipment set-up and take-down. โˆ™ Assists in maintaining athletic facilities. โˆ™ Assists in monitoring equipment for maintenance needs and repairs. โˆ™ Promotes and incorporates the YMCA core values and character development model into all program activities. โˆ™ Assists in branch fundraising activities and special events. โˆ™ Gives the Supervisor and all member and community inquiries and feedback in a timely manner. โˆ™ Assists in monitoring daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies. โˆ™ Adheres to and promotes all Sports Department health and safety standards and policies. โˆ™ Maintain a written attendance record for each class. โˆ™ Punches in and out for their scheduled shift following company policy of punching in & out not more than five minutes prior to or after their scheduled shift. โˆ™ All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Experience, Education, and Qualifications: โˆ™ High School Diploma. โˆ™ At least three (3) years of work related experience with sport programs. โˆ™ Demonstrates excellent planning and organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. โˆ™ Effective interpersonal and communications (oral and written) skills, as well as the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with Vendors, Directors and Staff of all levels. โˆ™ Ability to analyze and solve problems. โˆ™ Good time management skills. Trainings & Certifications:
  • Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Safety and Youth Protection Series trainings prior to initial assignment to position.
  • Must hold CPR, AED, and 02 (First Aid may be required at some branches) certifications or successfully complete no later than 30-days after employment begins.
  • Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90-days of employment.
  • Must attend and complete New Employee Orientation (includes Activate America Video 1), Listen First Level 1, and Quality Service Training within the first 90-days of employment.

At times, employees may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from others. All employees are required to always follow the preventative health policies of the YMCA. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
