Position Summary
The HVAC Mechanic reports to the Assistant Director of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing. Their duties include but are not limited to, the following: Installation, maintenance and repair of all refrigeration, heating, air-conditioning and air-handling equipment used throughout the campus.

Principal Accountabilities
  1. Installation, repair, maintenance and inspection of domestic and commercial refrigeration, air-conditioning, heating, cold storage, air-handling and pneumatic systems
  2. Services and calibrates automatic controls, electrical and pneumatic
  3. Services and performs minor repairs to motors
  4. Services and overhauls compressors, pumps, fans, condensers, chillers, gauges, recorders, hot water boilers and other auxiliary equipment and/or components or that equipment involved in refrigeration, air-handling, air-conditioning and heating
  5. Performs minor welding repairs, gas, electric-brazing, cutting and silver soldering
  6. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
This position requires appropriate licensure and three (3) years' experience as an HVAC Mechanic or the equivalency of this type of work. Must be knowledgeable in all phases of air-conditioning and refrigeration, control systems, heating systems, gauges and recording equipment. Requires a basic knowledge of electricity and its functions as applied to air-conditioning, air-handling and refrigerated systems. Also requires the ability to interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, manufacturer's spec sheets, schematics, etc.
This position requires the ability to work in awkward, uncomfortable positions such as, stooping, bending, kneeling, standing and stretching for extended periods of time. This position requires the ability to work on, or from, ladders, scaffolding, and platforms; and, requires the physical strength and ability for lifting, carrying and positioning of equipment. A valid driver's license is also required. This position is subject to a pre-employment physical examination, criminal background check and division of motor vehicles check.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with excellent benefits and a starting wage of $34.30 per hour, plus a $1.00 shift differential for 3rd shift. The standard schedule for the 40-hour position is Sunday through Thursday, 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The University will also consider a reduced work schedule of no fewer than 25 hours per week (with full benefits).
