General Description
The Continuing Education & Workforce Development Department seeks a part-time instructor for our Intuit QuickBooks Certified User certification program. We are looking for an engaging, tech-savvy professional to teach adult learners, career changers, entrepreneurs, and job seekers through a blend of in-person sessions and on-demand online modules. You will facilitate learning, monitor progress, and prepare students to pass the official Certiport Intuit QuickBooks Online Certified User exam.
Please note that this course exclusively covers the practical functionality of the QuickBooks software; foundational accounting and bookkeeping principles are not part of the curriculum. The curriculum focuses on QuickBooks Online administration, company file setup, user permissions, contact list management, and constructing customized product and service lists for tracking inventory. Additionally, students will master "Money-In" workflows (estimates, invoices, sales receipts, payments) and "Money-Out" workflows (checks, bills, credit cards, purchase orders), as well as bank feeds, automated bank rules, receipt uploads, and generating core financial reports like Profit and Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Audit Logs.
Prepares the student for employment careers in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, and financial administration. This is a part-time position and reports to the Program Director.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Provide QBCU instruction to students utilizing the established curriculum provided by UCNJ Union College, of Union County, NJ for the QuickBooks Certified User (QBCU) Certification Program.
• Teach material strictly from the approved curriculum, following predefined course outlines and delivering a clear, comprehensive syllabus focused solely on software functionality rather than foundational accounting principles.
• Conduct lectures and practical training explicitly aligned with navigating the digital workspace and passing the official QuickBooks Certified User Certification Exam.
• Provide quality, technically relevant instruction, assessment, and feedback in both lecture and laboratory settings, utilizing real-world simulations, hands-on exercise labs, and project workbooks.
• Instruct or co-instruct courses for non-credit programs across traditional lecture, hybrid, and fully online formats, with the ability to teach remote live and support asynchronous on-demand modules.
• Monitor student performance on targeted pre-and post-assessments, motivate active participation, and provide constructive feedback to ensure course standards and software fluency objectives are met.
• Guide students through core software workflows, including contact and inventory list management, income and expense tracking, and client invoicing automation.
• Maintain meticulous and compliant institutional records, including daily attendance tracking, midterm reporting, and final grade entries.
• Assist with ongoing course and program evaluations to ensure the curriculum continuously prepares students for the official online testing window.
Education Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or advanced certification from a four-year college or university in the relevant industry/discipline is required.
• Official QuickBooks Certified User (QBCU) Certification or QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor designation preferred.
Experience
• Requires a minimum of 3+ years instructional experience.
• A minimum of five (5) years' experience in accounting, finance, and/or financial administration.
• Software Expertise: Advanced, demonstrable proficiency in cloud-based accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred).
• Proven experience in adult education, corporate training, or vocational instruction.
• QuickBooks Certified User or equivalent ProAdvisor certification is highly preferred.
• Exceptional ability to translate complex digital procedures into easy-to-understand, actionable lessons.
• Deep understanding that the focus is on software navigation and application, rather than teaching core bookkeeping theory.
• Learning Management Systems (Canvas) and Simulated Learning Environments.
Competencies and Skills Required
• Skill in delivering complex technical material strictly according to predefined course outlines, institutional syllabi, and mandatory certification topics, focusing explicitly on software functionality over theoretical accounting principles.
• Curious educator utilizing innovative educational methodologies with the ability to quickly master new program curricula and digital learning management platforms.
• Strong interpersonal skills to assist leadership with ongoing course evaluations and program improvements.
• Mastery of cloud-based accounting workflows, digital workspaces, automated invoicing, expense tracking, and the specific software navigation skills tested on the official certification exam.
• Ability to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online classrooms using remote-live tools, virtual hands-on exercise labs, video-based lessons, and learning management systems (LMS).
• Skill in evaluating student work via pre- and post-assessments, providing actionable feedback, answering software-related inquiries promptly, and motivating active classroom participation.
• Ability to multi-task in a busy academic environment and effectively pace software simulations and lectures to ensure full classroom testing readiness within an accelerated curriculum window.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• This position's duties are normally performed in a typical work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
