Job Summary

The Mechanical Quality Inspector is responsible for the First Article Inspection and ensures product conformity to establish requirements by evaluating product to customer and Engineering drawings, specifications, and other related documents. Coordinates the receiving, in-process and final product inspections, and documents results in various reports and logs in the Quality System Network.

Compensation: $23-27/hr

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fundamental mechanical and mathematical inspection knowledge.
  • Familiar with the use of all inspection hand gauging including but not limited to, micrometers, thread gauges, dial indicators, calipers, height gauges, etc.
  • Ensure proper operation of measurement equipment by following operating instructions.
  • Robust knowledge of GD&T, blueprint, and spec interpretation.
  • Work and adhere to quality management systems and requirements (i.e., training, policies, procedures, document control)
  • Assists Engineering and Manufacturing in the investigation of non-conformities.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by following guidelines and procedures and complying with all applicable regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Attributes

  • GD&T Experience Required
  • Experience with inspection equipment such as - Mics, Calipers, Opticals, and Micro heights.
  • Extensive knowledge of software and database testing including designing and manipulating test data, validating stored jobs, and error replication.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to create test plans and cases from specifications or verbal communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to serve as a liaison with developers, project managers, and customer support.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience

  • Aerospace experience OR AS9100.
  • Lean Manufacturing is a plus
  • 5+ years preferred experience and /or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma or GED required

Qualifications

  • Effectively communicate and understand job instructions both verbally and written in the English language. Ability to effectively interpret and translate instructions to other employees in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Job Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, or walk the duration of shift, 8-10 hours.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach or bend.
  • Regularly lift, push, or pull up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in which 20/20 vision or corrected vision to 20/20 vision is required.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally required to work on the production floor as it relates to the job duties and responsibilities.
  • The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud when working in the plant, in which hearing protection is required.
