Job description

Job Title - Software Engineer (Contract)

Duration - 4 - 6 Months

Work Mode- Onsite

Work Location- Fairfield, California

Position Summary:

We are looking to fill in a part-time software engineer position in the Specialty Property department. This individual will support a cross-functional team of product developers, actuaries, catastrophe risk modelers, underwriters, and data analysts by maintaining and enhancing tools critical to product development, risk management, and underwriting execution. The role will also partner closely with the database administrator and software engineers currently supporting the business.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May perform any or all of the following):

  • Maintain and enhance software tools that support insurance product development, underwriting workflows, and risk management.
  • Deliver reliable, efficient solutions quickly that improve business operations and decision-making.
  • Develop and integrate solutions using RESTful APIs and internal or third-party services.
  • Automate key business processes through services, scheduled jobs, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Support maintaining in-house desktop applications, including WinForms or WPF applications, implement enhancements as needed.
  • Drive issue resolution and continuous improvement with a focus on supporting immediate business needs.
  • Work with database administrator and software engineers to ensure data integrity, application reliability, and system performance.
    Qualifications & Experience Required
  • 7 to 10 years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with ASP.NET, C#, .NET, and front-end technologies such as jQuery and/or React.
  • Strong experience with relational databases ( SQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience integrating with RESTful APIs.
  • Knowledge of MVVM design patterns.
  • Experience with process automation, service setup, job scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Proactive mindset with a strong commitment to team success, service health, and continuous improvement.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS or ArcGIS Pro, spatial data management, and Python.
  • Prior experience in working R&D environments or as a software engineer supporting a business unit comfortable with iterative approaches.
  • Experience in the insurance industry is preferred.
