Job description

The Shuttle Bus Driver safely transports Elmhurst University students, faculty, and staff to designated locations in the local area while providing courteous, professional, and reliable service. This is a temporary, part-time position for the 2026-2027 school year.

Work Hours: Saturdays, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., with occasional weekdays.

Position Status: Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $19.00-$20.00. This is the expected hourly range for this position. The actual salary offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, and departmental budget.
Reporting Relationship:
Direct reporting relationship to: Assistant Director of Communication and Support Services.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operates a minibus, van, or lightweight vehicle to transport Elmhurst University students, faculty, staff, and other authorized passengers.
  • Transports passengers between designated pick-up and drop-off locations, class sites, and approved local destinations.
  • Operates radio to communicate with dispatch or other drivers to report service updates, delays, or disruptions.
  • Maintains accurate records of trips and other required transportation documentation.
  • Provides assistance to passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle and properly secures mobility devices and other passenger equipment as needed.
  • Performs routine vehicle inspections and basic care, including washing vehicle, replenishing fuel, and other operating supplies.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
  • Ability to operate a shuttle bus in various weather and traffic conditions.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices.
  • Good driving record.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a harmonious working relationship with staff, faculty and students.

Work Hours:
This is a temporary part-time position with a regular schedule of Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. during the Fall and Spring semesters, with occasional weekday shifts when required. There are no shifts available during summer break, winter break, or the January term. Must be willing to work varying shifts to include evenings, weekends and holidays, as required. Schedules are based on department needs, and are at the discretion of the Assistant Director or Executive Director of Public Safety.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in a shuttle bus. Work is often sedentary in nature and requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods. Required abilities include clear speaking and active hearing for telephone, radio, and in person communication, using close and distance vision when driving, and performing frequent tasks with repetitive fine motor skills. Work may require occasional lifting, bending, carrying, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to climb stairs and lift 40 pounds. Qualified applicants who can perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations will be considered.
