About the Team
In this role, you'd be supporting the Marketing team. The marketing team helps people discover The Black Tux, understand what sets us apart, and feel confident choosing us for their big moments. We use smart strategy and creative storytelling to bring new customers in and keep them coming back.
What You'll Do
To further this important mission, we are looking for a part-time SEO and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) consultant to help grow organic visibility across traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered discovery platforms. This role will focus on increasing qualified traffic, improving rankings for high-intent keywords, optimizing content for AI-generated answers, and helping our brand become a trusted source across Google Search, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and other answer engines.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical SEO expertise with a deep understanding of how large language models and AI search experiences surface, cite, and recommend brands.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive SEO roadmap aligned with business goals.
  • Conduct keyword research and identify high-value content opportunities.
  • Audit and improve site architecture, internal linking, metadata, and technical SEO performance.
  • Monitor rankings, traffic, crawl health, and search visibility.
  • Partner with content marketing and product/tech teams to implement recommendations.
  • Using SEO optimization tools, develop strategies to improve visibility in AI-generated search results and answer engines.
  • Identify topics, content formats, and authority signals that increase citation likelihood.
  • Optimize content for featured snippets, AI overviews, knowledge panels, and conversational search experiences.
  • Track brand presence and citations across AI platforms including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews.
  • Recommend structured data, content enhancements, and authority-building initiatives that improve discoverability.
  • Identify content gaps and create editorial recommendations.
  • Project manage this work with the content/marketing team to maximize throughput.
  • Improve existing content to increase rankings, engagement, and answer-engine inclusion.
  • Develop strategies to increase backlinks, mentions, and digital authority.
  • Monitor competitor SEO and AEO performance.
  • Establish KPIs and reporting frameworks for both SEO and AEO performance.
  • Provide monthly reporting and actionable insights.
  • Track organic traffic, rankings, citations, share of voice, and AI visibility trends.
  • Present findings and recommendations to marketing leadership.

Who You Are
  • 5+ years of SEO experience with demonstrated business impact.
  • Strong understanding of technical SEO fundamentals.
  • Experience with enterprise SEO platforms and analytics tools.
  • Proven ability to increase organic traffic and search visibility.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience with or proficiency with quickly learning AEO platforms and analytics tools.
Preferred
  • Direct experience with AEO, AI search optimization, or generative search visibility.
  • Experience tracking AI citations and brand presence in answer engines.

The base salary range for this position will be $100-150/hour. Compensation may vary based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and location. The Black Tux defines compensation plans using market data aligned with comparable companies at a similar stage and size as ours.
