Job description

Description
We're hiring part-time senior counselors to join our close-knit, high-performing team. This is not a "build-your-own-practice" role - instead, you'll join a trusted system with an established meeting cadence, digital planning platforms, and strong communication tools.
We're specifically looking for:
  • Experienced counselors with a strong track record (3+ years)
  • Tech-savvy professionals who enjoy tools like Google Docs, Zoom, Intercom, CRMs, and AI-assisted workflows
  • Coachable team players who embrace process, feedback, and collaboration
  • Empathetic communicators who work well with both students and parents
  • Comprehensive knowledge and extensive experience in the college application process.
  • Familiarity with the applications for Common, University of California, and California State University.
  • Primarily available to work with students in the Pacific Standard Time zone.
  • Working hours are Monday through Friday until 7:30 p.m PST.

This Might Not Be a Fit If:
  • You prefer to do things your own way and resist structured systems
  • You dislike using digital tools or working virtually
  • You aren't comfortable balancing communication with both students and their parents
  • You want full autonomy to coach however you wish

If you're independent but not stubborn, strategic but not rigid, we'd love to hear from you.
Please note that we receive thousands of applications. Please do not call or email us. If your resume and experience meet our qualifications, we will be in touch with you.
Additionally, we will not review resumes without accompanying cover letters.
Responsibilities
• Manage a caseload of high school students.
• Follow a structured meeting cadence and planning process, supported by our platforms.
• Collaborate with our internal team on student timelines, applications, and outcomes.
• Guide students through academic planning, extracurricular development, college list creation, and essay strategy.
• Help students improve executive functioning (organization, time management, follow-through).
• Communicate consistently and clearly with families.
• Lead or support admissions workshops and group info sessions.
• Uphold CPSI's high standard of care, professionalism, and responsiveness.
Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience as a high school counselor, independent educational consultant, or college admissions counselor.
• Deep understanding of the U.S. college admissions process, including selective admissions.
• Strong comfort level with technology and virtual tools (Zoom, Google Workspace, CRMs, digital calendars, etc).
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• High empathy, responsiveness, and professionalism.
• Receptive to feedback and excited to learn our process and tools.
• A graduate degree is preferred but not required.
