Job description

Hours of work: Permanent part-time, up to 24 hours.  Days, afternoon and night shifts.

Internal applications for this position within the UFCW bargaining unit must be received within 7 days of being posted to have seniority considered in the selection process. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Enforce Homewood’s smoke-free policy
  • Enforce all parking policies, procedures and by-laws through routine parking patrols. This includes referencing parking records, contacting city by-law enforcement regarding ticketing and towing, and documenting all data and action
  • Respond to all emergencies in person, taking a leadership role and working with Switchboard under all Emergency Codes
  • Monitor all mechanical/electrical control centres and respond to all off-hours maintenance problems, working Switchboard to determine on-call maintenance needs
  • Troubleshoot and service minor mechanical and electrical problems when required, reporting repairs and maintenance to Environmental Services
  • Practice fire safety through regular fire inspection in accordance with Provincial and Municipal fire codes and Occupational Health and Safety requirements. This includes assisting with removal and resetting of fire alarm panels and detection systems stations, and conducting fire drills
  • Complete required tours and record all incidents as outlined under the guidelines for Security Operations
  • Maintain a clean, safe working area and ensures all safety precautions are taken in the performance of duties

What we’re looking for:

  • Security Guard License required
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification; recertification to be completed annually
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License Class G
  • 6 months’ experience with security, police, fire 
  • Police, Law and Security Diploma required 
  • Experience within a hospital setting is preferred
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including days, evenings, and nights
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and evaluate situations and implement de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to handle confidential information with a high amount of discretion
  • Current copy of a Ministry of Transportation Search Record must be provided
  • Cleared Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as proficient computer skills and the ability to write comprehensive reports and maintain routine logs
  • Knowledge of WHMIS
  • Evidence of good work and attendance record
  • Demonstrated commitment to Homewood’s Core Competencies (Service Excellence, Innovation, Collaboration, Integrity)

      The starting rate of pay (Step 1) for this position is $29.26/hourly, in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. Progression through the wage steps is governed by the terms of the collective agreement.
