Position Overview:
The Washington Mystics are celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2027. We're seeking a 30th Anniversary Legacy Intern, working within the Marketing Department, to help us collect, organize, catalog, and preserve the stories and artifacts that tell the history of the franchise. This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in sports history, public history, museums, archives, communications, or storytelling.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in collecting photographs, memorabilia, documents, and artifacts from fans, former players, coaches, employees, and community members.
  • Maintain a detailed digital catalog of artifacts, including descriptions, ownership information, condition reports, and loan documentation.
  • Coordinate artifact intake, tracking, storage, and return throughout the loan process.
  • Coordinate meetings for the Mystics Heritage Committee, a volunteer committee made up of fans
  • Prepare agendas, presentation materials, meeting notes, and follow-up action items.
  • Maintain committee records and assist with communications between committee members.
  • Track project timelines and ensure follow-up on assigned tasks.
  • Research significant moments, players, seasons, traditions, and milestones in Mystics history.
  • Help identify gaps in the historical collection and recommend additional artifacts, photographs, and personal stories to pursue.
  • Assist with planning and organization of historical exhibits at CareFirst Arena and other community locations.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team on anniversary content across social, web, email, and in-arena platforms.
  • Maintain project trackers and archival databases.
  • Assist with special events related to the 30th Anniversary celebration.
  • Support other Marketing projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Museum Studies, Library & Information Science, Public History, or Archives preferred.
  • Passionate about preserving history and telling meaningful stories.
  • Curious and eager to uncover untold moments from the franchise's past.
  • A strong collaborator who enjoys working with fans, alumni, and community members.
  • Self-motivated and excited to help build a project that will become part of the Mystics' permanent legacy.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Experience with spreadsheets or databases is preferred.
  • Interest in women's sports, sports history, museums, archives, or storytelling is highly desirable.
Pay Rate: $18.40 USD/hour
