What are part time science jobs?

Part-time science jobs are roles in scientific fields that require fewer hours than a standard full-time position, often offering flexible schedules. These jobs can include positions such as lab assistants, research technicians, science tutors, or teaching assistants, among others. They are ideal for students, professionals seeking work-life balance, or those looking to gain experience in science without committing to full-time hours. Responsibilities and requirements vary depending on the specific job and employer, but typically involve supporting scientific research, education, or laboratory operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time science teacher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part-Time Science Teacher, you generally need a strong background in science (such as a degree in biology, chemistry, or physics) and a teaching certification or relevant classroom experience. Familiarity with digital learning platforms, laboratory equipment, and educational technology is often required. Effective communication, classroom management, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for engaging students and delivering lessons efficiently. These skills ensure high-quality instruction, student engagement, and the ability to manage diverse classroom environments within limited teaching hours.

What are some common challenges faced by part time science instructors, and how can they be managed?

Part-time science instructors often balance multiple commitments, which can make time management a significant challenge. They may find it difficult to coordinate lab sessions, keep up with grading, and provide timely feedback while working limited hours. Building strong communication with full-time faculty, utilizing digital tools for efficient lesson planning, and setting clear boundaries with students can help manage these challenges. Additionally, staying organized and proactive in scheduling can ensure a smooth workflow and maintain a positive teaching experience.

  • House/Dog Sitting: There may be opportunities for providing in-home house-sitting and/or dog-sitting when the family travels, potentially for 1-2 weeks per year. • Reliable personal transportation and a clean driving record required. Must be comfortable driving a large family vehicle.
  • Candidates are required to be up to date on recommended vaccinations in line with American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines (including annual flu shot and all routinely recommended adult vaccinations).
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required (or willing to obtain prior to start).
  • Comfortable with property cameras and an in-vehicle camera for shared safety.
  • Must be genuinely comfortable and compassionate with large dogs.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

About Our Family
We are a busy and warm household of six (yes, the dogs count). Both parents work in medicine, and our home reflects that energy: organized, intentional, and moving at a steady pace. We have two young daughters who keep things lively and two very large, very beloved Newfoundland dogs who are part of everything we do.
We are relocating from out of state and are building our new support system from the ground up. Our home runs on systems, routines, and a deep appreciation for follow-through. We are direct communicators and genuinely kind people. We want our home to feel calm and functional even when life gets full, and we are looking for someone who takes real ownership of that alongside us.
We approach health and wellness with a science-based lens and respect for evidence-based practices, and we hope the person we bring into our home shares or at minimum respects that perspective. We are not a high-drama household. We want things done right, done warmly, and done consistently.
Who You Are
You are the kind of person who shows up every single day, no excuses. You are warm, grounded, and direct, and you do not take feedback personally because you understand it is how good working relationships are built. You love kids and you love dogs, even the ones who drool on your shoes. You have a calm confidence in the kitchen and can take initiative once trust is established. You are organized by nature, not just by instruction, and you take pride in a well-run home. You communicate clearly, ask good questions up front, and then get the job done. You are comfortable in a home that uses cameras as a shared safety measure, and you understand why a medical family would prioritize that.
Key Responsibilities
Family Support
  • Morning drop-off support: helping two children get ready each morning and transport them to daycare
  • Light backup childcare and in-home supervision as needed
  • Occasional transport to activities such as swim lessons and camps
  • Kid-related errands such as birthday gift shopping when needed

Household Organization & Maintenance
  • Daily resets to maintain a tidy, functional home
  • Light tidying: dishes, surfaces, high-traffic vacuuming
  • Maintain and follow household organization systems as established; surface ideas for improvements when something is not working
  • Prepare home for cleaners as scheduled
  • Seasonal swaps for children's clothing, bedding, and decor
  • Coordinate donation drop-offs as items are cycled out
  • On-site presence for contractors, cleaners, and landscapers as needed
  • Clean and maintain humidifiers and air purifiers

Meal Support
  • Prep 3-4 dinners per week, ready to assemble or heat; focus on variety, fruits, and vegetables
  • Weekly in-store grocery shopping (quality and consistency are priorities; we've found that online ordering can affect quality)
  • Manage running grocery and household supply lists
  • Follow dietary needs: gluten-free for one parent, dairy-sensitive for the other
  • Kitchen clean-up and general maintenance
  • Baking with the children is a wonderful bonus if it is something you enjoy

Laundry & Linens
  • Wash, fold, and organize household laundry and the children's clothing (parents handle their own)
  • Stain treatment on clothing as needed
  • Rotate and launder children's bedding every other week and bathroom towels as needed
  • Maintain a tidy and well-stocked laundry area

Inventory & Errands
  • Restock pantry, fridge, and household supplies
  • Manage household orders and subscriptions (Amazon, Costco, Target, etc.)
  • Handle returns, package sorting, mail, and box breakdown
  • Gift shopping as needed (birthdays, etc.)
  • Dry cleaning drop off and pick up as needed

Pet Care
  • Daily walks for both dogs (approximately 20-30 minutes, adjusted for each dog's health needs)
  • Morning feeding with medications administered (eye drops and oral medications added to food)
  • Transport dogs to physical therapy appointments, approximately once or twice per month
  • Comfort with large dogs, significant drool, and the physical demands of their care is non-negotiable

  • Vacuum out car seats and keep vehicle tidy
  • Drop off and pick up family vehicle for scheduled maintenance
