Job Summary
The University of Michigan Museum of Natural History , is seeking a part-time Marketing & Media Assistant.
The Marketing & Media Assistant will work closely with the Manager of Museum Public Communications to implement marketing and communications strategies required to carry out the museum's educational and public service mission.
This position will be supervised by the Marketing & Communications Manager.
This is a non-exempt, part-time (7 hours weekly), temporary position.
This position is expected to last through December 2026, with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities*
  1. Collaborate with the Manager of Museum Public Communications to plan, coordinate and execute internal and external marketing and communications efforts across the museum.
  2. Assist with content development for print and web-based marketing promotion for a variety of media including departmental websites and social media sites, e-newsletters, targeted emails, podcasts, etc.
  3. Prepare and coordinate distribution of communications materials including newsletters, brochures, manuals, websites, social media content, etc.

Required Qualifications*
  • High school diploma required.
  • One to two years of professional experience creating and delivering targeted content for an audience.
  • Experience using Adobe design programs, especially Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Demonstrated ability to manipulate text and graphics to accommodate a wide range of design specifications and media.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design, multimedia authoring, and site-oriented web development (i.e. working with a Content Management System such as WordPress to edit and update a website)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and others. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills, including accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Interest in principles, practice, and procedure of marketing, communications, public relations, media relations, and social media.
  • Interest in photography/videography.
  • Must be flexible and able to work with changing schedules.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Basic videography and/or photography skills.
  • Graphic design education and/or experience.
  • Scientific writing and/or interest in science content.
  • Experience working in an academic environment.
  • Experience with paid advertising campaigns.
