Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a temporary part-time Academic Advisor for Undergraduate Education in the School of Engineering (SoE). This position reports to the Assistant Dean - Director of Advising to support the school's mission and the needs of our diverse student population.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Provides reliable and timely academic advising to undergraduates at the School of Engineering.
  • Provides comprehensive academic support and retention services to students by making timely referrals to appropriate offices.
  • Interacts professionally and compassionately with all undergraduate students, as well as their parents/guardians.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with the SoE departments and other campus partners on issues pertaining to academic policies and student advising during their tenure.
  • Works as an integral part of SoE Undergraduate Education.
  • Participates in university-wide and school-wide duties and functions as assigned.
  • Supports a collaborative, team focused, and positive work environment that is student-centered and passionate about student success.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in college-level academic advising, student services or a closely related field, preferably in a large university setting, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records.
  • Experience working with domestic and international students with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism.
  • Excellent communication skills, and demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of the engineering curricula and the academic degree requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Rutgers system-wide student information and service delivery systems including IMS, Salesforce, Navigate 360, Degree Navigator, Canvas.
