Description
The purpose of this classification is to work with the Program Coordinators and Assistant Camp Director to staff camp, solve staffing problems, and plan camp activities. The incumbent will be responsible for reviewing camp curriculum and recommending policies and procedures.
Examples of Duties
  • The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Open facility for daily operation; Manage clerical duties for the program; Maintain and operate supply storage room; Recommend supplies for camp; Close and secure all camp materials, supplies, and operational equipment; Report any damage to Program Coordinator or Assistant Camp Director.
  • Assist in scheduling activities for children; Supervise all activities; Create schedule for day camp staff; Maintain a safe work area; Inspect all playground equipment to avoid injury; Act as a go between for parents and the department; Keep facilities clean.
  • Assist in training camp counselors; Assist in verbal or written reprimands for misbehavior; Maintain harmony among workers and assist in settling any grievances.
  • Assist in planning and organization of all special events and field trips; Demonstrate imagination and resourcefulness in working with camp staff and children; Maintain child attendance at the sign in area; Assist with homework in afterschool program.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age; High school diploma or GED is required; supplemented by experience in programming and supervising activities for children ages 5 - 12 or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities / Supplemental Information
  • Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license; First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be nurturing, organized, creative and resourceful and be able to effectively communicate with young children, parents, and staff, and be a role model for children. Must possess the knowledge and skill to apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
