Job Summary ***Reposted: 04/21/2026 This position is responsible for examining death cases to report to the Medical Examiner. Major Duties Reports to locations of deaths, makes death pronouncements, and transports decedents. Communicates with law enforcement, medical staff, and families to gather information.

Prepares decedents for examinations. Inventories decedent medications. Investigates crime scenes; takes photographs with digital camera.

Releases decedents following established policies and procedures; releases decedent property. Prepares written reports. Perform any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of crime scene investigation. Knowledge of Texas law as related to death scenes. Knowledge of medical terminology.

Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in the preparation of clear and precise reports.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language. Minimum Qualifications Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited school in Criminal Justice or any Science related field. Supplemental Information Complexity/Scope of Work The work consists of varied investigatory duties.

The unique nature of each case contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to gather information to be used by the Medical Examiner in the determination of cause and manner of death. Success in this position contributes to the safety of the general public.

Physical Demands/Work Environment Occasionally Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles. Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces. Working in low temperatures.

Working in high temperatures. Working in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Working in noisy environments.

Working in hazardous conditions. Working in poor ventilation. Working in small and/or enclosed spaces.

Working in adverse environmental conditions is expected. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Constantly Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Adjusting or moving objects up to 200 pounds in all directions. Communicating with others to exchange information.

Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment. Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business. Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds. Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.

Heavy work that includes carrying objects up to 100 pounds or more. Other Requirements/Information Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license. Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job.

Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and criminal background checks are required. This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
