Job description

Position: Registered Nurse - Campbell University Community Care Clinic
Department: Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine/CU Community Care Clinic
Status: Part-Time/Contingent on Grant Funding
Position Summary:
This is a part-time position. Twenty-eight hours/week (.7FTE). This position is contingent on grant funding.
The Registered Nurse (RN) cares for and treats patients in medical office, as directed by the physician. The RN prepares patients for and assists with examinations, administers injections and medications, dresses wounds and incisions, interprets physician's instructions to patients, and performs related tasks as directed.Maintains records of vital statistics and other pertinent data of patients. The RN will also be available to teach undergraduate students to do vital signs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for examination, take vitals, and record patients' health history
  • Set-up EKG machines, administer injections and medications, and perform routine specimen collection and tests, including phlebotomy.
  • Complies with HIPPA regulations at all times.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties in order to meet patient needs and ensure efficient operation of the Health Center.
  • Assist physician with medical treatments, procedures, and exams
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and equip exam rooms with appropriate supplies
  • Compiles reports as requested.
  • Prepare equipment and examination rooms, and clean instruments
  • Handles moderately complex to complex problems on a daily basis.
  • Greets patients and visitors with courtesy, ascertains purpose of visit and provides appropriate response or directs to appropriate staff.
  • Contributes to the creation and maintenance of a customer-friendly environment.
  • Educates patients regarding availability and extent of healthcare services, patient rights and responsibilities, and practice policies and procedures.
  • Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; medication administration and storage procedures; and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Ability to work 5:00pm to 9:00PM one night weekly and regular day hours assist in patient follow up. These hours will be at our off-campus sites and at patient homes/NGO offices.
  • This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines.

Education/Experience:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or LPN
  • Active applicable state licensure
  • American Heart Association issued BLS (Basic Life Support)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • The RN or LPN is bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
  • Comprehensive computer skills; technologically savvy
  • Knowledgeable in EMR systems such as Allscripts, Athena
  • Proficient in skills with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and digital methods of communication
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the community patients.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet set deadlines
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment
  • Able to do home visits.
