Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Part Time Registered Nurse to join the Operating Room team at University of Maryland Capital Region Health. This opportunity is ideal for a nurse seeking flexibility, variety, and exposure across multiple surgical workflows and team dynamics within a high-acuity perioperative environment. You will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient surgical care across a broad case mix while collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, team-driven setting.
Part Time Rotating Shifts
This role offers rotating scheduling opportunities designed to support operational coverage while providing exposure to multiple shift environments and surgical workflows.
Shift options include:
Days: 6:45 AM - 5:15 PM | Evenings: 2:45 PM - 11:15 PM | Nights: 6:45 PM - 7:00 AM
Key Responsibilities:
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
• Deliver independent, high-quality perioperative care across a broad range of surgical cases; anticipate needs, prioritize effectively, and drive safe, efficient case flow.
• Function as the primary circulating RN; maintain full accountability for patient safety, clinical outcomes, and continuity of care throughout the surgical episode.
• Coordinate seamlessly with surgeons, anesthesia, and the interdisciplinary team; ensure alignment on case progression, patient status, and intraoperative needs.
• Apply evidence-based practice in real time; serve as a clinical resource and escalation point for complex or high-acuity situations.
• Champion Patient and Family Centered Care; identify gaps, elevate concerns, and drive measurable improvement.
• Contribute directly to quality outcomes through NSQI participation, effective handoff practices, and strict medication safety standards.
• Lead and support performance improvement, evidence-based practice, and unit-level initiatives that enhance surgical outcomes and workflow efficiency.
• Maintain full regulatory compliance; support audit readiness and uphold all clinical, safety, and documentation standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
Part Time Rotating Shifts
Days: 6:45 AM - 5:15 PM | Evenings: 2:45 PM - 11:15 PM | Nights: 6:45 PM - 7:00 AM
Licensure & Experience:
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maryland or Compact eligibility in accordance with MBON required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of Operating Room RN experience required.
• Proven ability to independently circulate surgical cases in a fast-paced OR environment.
• Experience supporting a range of procedures including general, orthopedic, and specialty cases strongly preferred.
• Trauma experience preferred.
• High-acuity experience and strong clinical judgment in complex surgical settings strongly preferred.
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
