Job description

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED
  • Minimum of one year experience in activities, volunteering with older adults
  • Experience with activities or volunteering preferred
  • Ability and desire to work with the senior population

POSITION SUMMARY:
  • Assist with developing, coordinating and performing activities for the community which reflect the varied interests of the residents
  • Assist with the recruiting, coordinating and training volunteers
  • Assist with involving employees and family members in the activities program

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with implementation of comprehensive activities to help meet the spiritual, physical, social and psychosocial needs of the resident
  • Utilization of community resources and entertainers with scheduled various activities and special events
  • Assist with the monthly activities calendar to reflect varied interests of the residents and provision of enriching opportunities
  • Assist with coordination of special events including holiday events
  • Conduct activities as needed
  • Assist with the Resident Council meeting monthly and document the minutes
  • Ensure that residents are encouraged and assisted to attend activities that are of interest to them
  • Assist with monitoring the supplies and equipment needed to provide regularly scheduled activities
  • Assist with involving other departments for various activities
  • Assist with various outside community service projects, trips, etc
  • Comply with the residence's policies, training programs and state/federal regulations
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • To fulfill job requirements, the employee must be able to perform a key physical task for extended periods of time. When supporting, lifting or transporting residents, proper body mechanics and safety measures as prescribed by the residence must be used

In a typical eight hour day, the employee will:
  • Stand/walk up to eight hours a day
  • Sit up to two hours a day
  • Occasionally lift/carry up to 15 pounds
  • Frequently kneel, bend and reach
  • Secure proper assistance for transferring and lifting of residents as needed

Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of your job position is to provide assistance with the recreational, educational and social needs of residents in Regency Health Care Center's and to provide assistance in administrative functions as directed/instructed by the Administrator, Activities Director, Social Services Director or his/her designee in accordance with established facility policies and procedures.
Delegation of Authority
As an Activities Assistant, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
Job Functions

  • Treat all residents, families and staff with respect, dignity, hospitality and addresses the residents and staff in a courteous and professional manner
  • Portray a professional image within Regency and the local community by dressing in a professional manner and by maintaining a courteous decorum consistent with resident acceptance and interest
  • Utilizes community services and volunteers as appropriate
  • Assists with seasonal or other decorations in Health Care
  • Perform clerical support as assigned or needed
  • Operate paging/telephone system as required
  • Refer appropriate calls to charge nurse or other appropriate personnel
  • Greet visitors in polite and professional manner
  • Report suspicious persons to supervisor or other management personnel
  • Ensure guests and vendors abide by facilities rules and safety regulations
  • Assist management staff as needed or as directed by supervisor

Education:
Some college helpful, High School Education or Equivalent Required; Able to read, write and understand the English Language.
Experience:
Experienced in long-term care activity program very helpful. Some on-the-job training provided. Very good basic clerical experience necessary including computer and typing.
Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or without the aid of Mechanical Devices):
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day; must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner; must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position; must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met; must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, resident's family members and coworkers; must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility; must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 20 lbs and maximum of 50 lbs and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight for reasonable distances; may be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
