Job description

Host (PT/FT) - Snow City Cafe
Summary/Objective
Basic duties are to greet guests in a warm and open manner as they arrive, quote wait times if necessary, seat guests, take reservations, take to-go orders in person and over the phone, and answer any guest inquiries. Hosts are the guests’ first point of contact in the restaurant and they are expected to provide exemplary customer service at all times.
Operations
  • Knows all table numbers, seat position points, and server sections
  • Works with other staff to ensure the dining room is clean and organized at all times. Is constantly pre-bussing, picking up trash from the floor, straightening tables and chairs, etc. as needed
  • Greets every guest right away with eye contact and a smile
  • Completes all opening, ongoing, and closing side work
  • Is timely in all aspects of service; the greeting, getting guests seated, and letting them know who their server will be
  • Accurately quotes wait times when there is a waitlist for tables and keeps guests updated and informed of progress
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of all menu items and potential allergens
  • Keeps the host stand neat and properly stocked with copies, menus, writing utensils, etc. before, during, and at the end of their shift
  • Inspects and cleans all menus and removes any paper menus from service that are stained or damaged
  • Performs restroom checks to make sure they are clean (no overflowing garbage cans) and stocked with paper towels, toilet paper, and soap
  • Keeps the table map updated with correct seat times
  • Assists with clearing tables as needed
  • Answer the phone promptly in a pleasant and informative manner
  • Ability to work in a fast paced restaurant environment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This may be a full time or part-time position. Employees may be asked to work, standing and walking, in a fast paced environment for up to 9 hours in a shift.

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must be able to communicate, write, and understand English
  • Must have strong cash handling skills and have the ability to operate a cash register and POS system
  • Must have a current Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card
