(Primary Location for Job Responsibilities) Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144.
Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.
Department Information
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts basic and/or complex procedures with the use of basic methods in microbiology, biochemistry, cellular biology and molecular biology: Bacterial culture, tissue culture, Western blotting, SDS-PAGE, protein purification, biochemical protein analyses, metal/metalloid quantification and speciation (ICP-MS, HPLC-ICP-MS), antimicrobial/cytotoxicity assay, column chromatography, etc.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES* :
Ability to work with proteins, bacterial and mammalian cells
Effective analytical skills.
Job Summary
Provides support for research projects in the assigned area. Assists in conducting experiments, managing lab operations.
This position is considered limited-term staff since it utilizes contingent funding, Employment thereafter will be conditional based on the continued availability of funding.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs data collection and calculations according to established policies and procedures
2. Interprets and communicates results
3. Makes presentations on research results
4. Assists with writing research papers, conducts library research and prepares bibliographic materials
5. Cleans and maintains research areas, makes buffers and common reagents
6. Maintains supplies and orders as needed
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a field related to the position
Required Experience
Prior laboratory research experience
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Preferred Experience
Previous experience in conducting microbiology, cellular biology, and/or biochemistry research.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, laboratory equipment, materials and methods relating to field of study.
ABILITIES
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
