Job description

Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Custodial & Maintenance Foreman, the Custodian - RiverPlex Recreation Center is responsible for the following:
  • Monitors the cleanliness of the locker room.
  • Ensures that program areas, equipment, and locker rooms are neat and in good repair.
  • Performs all assigned facility maintenance and clean-up.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of maintenance supplies.
  • Assists in keeping the Riverplex and surrounding grounds clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive.
  • Follows all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supports all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions: The work requires physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials that are relative to the services rendered. Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and twisting are required; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on each leg of a repetitive unloading/reloading process; activities involving risks that are typically associated with athletic, recreational, and facility rental events; normal safety precautions typical for these areas of service are required. Exposure to power equipment, outdoor turf/field implements and chemicals, indoor cleaning agents and solutions and various hand tools will be required. The indoor work environment is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Outdoor work will expose the incumbent to a wide range of seasonal weather patterns and environmental conditions.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge and Ability:
  • General knowledge of cleaning and maintaining facilities is required.
  • Must possess basic repair and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate and maintain mechanized cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
