What is a part time remote video editing job?

A part time remote video editing job involves editing video footage for clients or companies from a location of your choice, usually your home. You work fewer hours than a full-time position, often with flexible scheduling, and collaborate with clients or teams online. Tasks can include cutting and arranging footage, adding effects or transitions, and ensuring the final product meets project specifications. This job requires proficiency with video editing software, attention to detail, and good communication skills. It's ideal for those seeking flexible work arrangements or supplementary income.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time remote video editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Remote Video Editor, you need strong proficiency in video editing, storytelling, and a solid grasp of visual aesthetics, often supported by a relevant portfolio or degree. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve is essential, and knowledge of file management and cloud-based collaboration tools is beneficial. Excellent time management, communication skills, and a proactive approach to feedback help remote editors stand out. These skills and qualities are crucial for consistently producing high-quality content, meeting deadlines, and collaborating effectively while working independently.

What are some common challenges faced by part time remote video editors, and how can they be effectively managed?

Part-time remote video editors often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, communicating effectively with clients or team members across time zones, and ensuring smooth file sharing and project organization. To address these issues, it's important to establish clear communication channels, use collaborative tools like cloud storage and project management software, and maintain a well-organized workflow. Setting realistic expectations with clients and regularly updating them on progress can also help prevent misunderstandings and ensure successful project delivery.

Video Editor (Part-Time Contract)

Daydream

Job description

About Daydream
Music is inherently real-time, but today's generative audio tools aren't: you prompt, wait, listen, change a few keywords, repeat. It's difficult to achieve a flow state or do anything improvisational or long-running. We wanted more from our technology, and we asked ourselves "what would the synthesizer look like if it were invented in 2026?"
Our answer is Daydream, a live remixing engine for your DAW. The Daydream VST lets you play, perform, and shape AI-remixed audio in real time right in your DAW of choice. The engine underneath it, DEMON, is open source, and we're early in our journey to bring it to market.
The Role
We're looking for a video editor to take raw footage of Daydream in action and turn it into content that performs across every platform we publish on. We have a steady stream of source material: tutorial recordings, live remix sessions, screen captures of producers working in Ableton, and performance footage that's closer to a show than a lesson. Your job is to shape that footage into two kinds of output.
The first is short-form: clips for X, Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts that make a producer stop scrolling. You'll find the moment in a 40-minute session where something surprising happens, cut it down to 30 seconds, and frame it so it works vertically, with captions, at the pacing each platform rewards. The second is long-form: full tutorials and workflow videos for YouTube that teach a real skill from start to finish, with clean pacing, clear chapter structure, and edits that respect the viewer's time.
The same raw session might become a 15-minute YouTube tutorial, three TikToks, and a 60-second X clip, each cut and formatted for how people actually watch on that platform. We care more about whether the content is interesting than whether it follows a template.
Who We're Looking For
You're an experienced editor with a body of work we can watch; this isn't a role for someone learning to edit on the job. Familiarity with Ableton Live or a similar DAW is a real advantage, since you'll be deciding which moments in a session matter and which don't.
A few things that matter to us:
  • You're fluent in your editing tool of choice (Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, whatever gets the job done) and fast in it.
  • You understand the grammar of each platform: aspect ratios, caption styles, hook timing, pacing, and what the algorithm on each one actually rewards.
  • You have taste and a clear point of view about what makes a cut work.
  • You're comfortable producing high-quality edited video at scale, turning one shoot into many deliverables.
  • You should be the kind of person who views AI as a resource, a sounding board, and a creative partner rather than as a threat.
  • Motion graphics, sound design, and color skills are welcome but not required.
  • It helps if you've grown a channel or account before, but a great body of work matters more than follower count.

Logistics
This is a part-time contract role, and it's remote. We're flexible on cadence and can shape the arrangement around the right person. You'll work closely with our team, get early access to features before they ship, and have a direct line to the people building this product.
