Job description

Description
Certification Program Specialist, CBIC
Full Remote: Part-Time (20 hours)
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Certification Program Specialist supports the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) by owning CBIC's policy and procedure documentation. This includes the Candidate Handbook, Recertification/IPU Handbook, and related program manuals. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for website accuracy and certification trend reporting, while working alongside CBIC's Certification Coordinator as a knowledgeable, senior-level presence on candidate and certificant support.
This role requires day-to-day, working knowledge of certification and recertification support, including phone, email, and correspondence with certificate holders and candidates, and the ability to step in seamlessly alongside the Certification Coordinator during peak volume, PTO, or on complex/escalated matters. The Certification Program Specialist is the primary point of contact for maintaining and updating CBIC's policy and procedure documentation, including the Candidate Handbook and Recertification Manual; regularly audits the CBIC website for accuracy; and owns certification trend reporting for the Executive Director and Board.
This position requires exceptional attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to work tactfully and professionally with certificants, candidates, vendors, Board members, and taskforce volunteers. Given its part-time and individual-contributor nature, the role requires strong self-management skills - the ability to set priorities, manage time effectively, and deliver consistent, high-quality results with limited day-to-day supervision. This position has high visibility and requires strong written and verbal communication skills, and supports the goals and mission of CBIC.
The Certification Program Specialist exemplifies the staff core values of Ownership, Unity, and Commitment.
Requirements
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., business, communications, healthcare administration) preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Associates degree or equivalent number of years' experience
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in certification/credentialing, membership association, or customer-service-intensive administrative work required.
  • Prior experience in a role requiring independent judgment and minimal supervision preferred, consistent with a senior-level, part-time position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated mastery of complex, interrelated policies and procedures, with the ability to apply them accurately to a wide range of candidate and certificant situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and professional public-facing documentation and correspondence.
  • Self-management: able to independently plan, prioritize, and manage a part-time workload against deadlines with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Comfortable interacting professionally with Board members, committee/taskforce volunteers, and external vendors.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound judgment in reviewing website content and public-facing materials for accuracy.
  • Ability to translate operational data (e.g., ticketing, portfolio audit, refund data) into clear trend reporting.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) and database management systems; experience with Salesforce a plus.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems required for content review/updates.
