This is a part-time position (32 hours per week) with flexible scheduling options within core business hours (Monday - Friday 7:45 AM - 4:30 PM).
This position will be assigned to work in person at our downtown Madison location ( 201 E. Washington Ave. ). Some remote work may be available in the future depending on business needs. Our office is located near a variety of restaurants and food carts, live music and events, the farmer's market, B-cycle rentals, lakefront parks, the Capital City bike path, and multiple bus routes.

Position Summary
Key responsibilities of this position include:

• Maintaining files
• Monitoring and reviewing outgoing correspondence relating to Worker's Compensation claims
• Providing information in person and by telephone to the general public
• Providing technical support to the Worker's Compensation staff, including Administrative Law Judges
• Providing support in drafting legal documents and files
• Preparing verbatim transcripts from recordings of meetings

Salary Information
Starting pay is $21.44 per hour, plus an exemplary benefits package :

The classification title for this position is Office Associate (schedule 02, range 09). A 12-month probationary period will be required. This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.
Job Details
Future remote work: This position may offer some hybrid remote work in the future, depending on business needs. Employees with approved remote and hybrid-remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin. High-speed internet access will be required to meet the needs of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change.
Criminal histories: W e also consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
Eligibility to work in United States: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e. a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant completing the I-9 upon hire.
Qualifications

You need to have the following experience:

• Performing basic office tasks (filing, data entry, mail processing, answering phones, or similar).
• Using Windows-based computers, including basic office software (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, email, or similar) in an academic or business setting.
• Providing a diverse array of services to meet customer needs (e.g. greeting visitors, answering questions, explaining processes, identifying and providing resources, escalating issues, etc.).

Any of the following experience would be nice to have:

• Working in a legal, insurance, or similar environment.
• Transcribing documents with technical, medical or legal terminology.
• Proofreading documents (e.g. letters, charts, manuals, or similar).
• Communicating with angry or upset customers in sensitive or high impact situations.
