Is embedded systems still a good career in 2026?

Embedded systems remain a strong career choice in 2026 due to ongoing demand in industries like automotive, healthcare, and IoT. Skills in C/C++, real-time operating systems, and hardware integration are valuable, and remote work opportunities for embedded software engineers continue to grow.

Will AI replace embedded programmers?

AI is unlikely to fully replace embedded programmers, as their expertise in designing, debugging, and optimizing embedded systems remains essential. AI tools can assist with code generation and testing, but human oversight and specialized knowledge are critical for developing reliable embedded software, especially in safety-critical applications.

How do part-time remote embedded software engineers typically collaborate with hardware teams to ensure seamless integration?

Part-time remote embedded software engineers often use a mix of video conferencing, shared documentation platforms, and version control systems to closely collaborate with hardware teams. Regular check-ins and clear communication are crucial for aligning software development cycles with hardware prototyping and testing schedules. Despite the remote nature, being proactive in asking questions and sharing build updates helps prevent integration issues and ensures that software is optimized for the target hardware. Many teams also rely on simulation tools and remote access to test benches to facilitate hands-on collaboration even from a distance.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior embedded software engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills in real-time systems, and proficiency in tools like C/C++ and RTOS can reach salaries of $500,000 or more, especially in high-demand industries such as aerospace or defense. Achieving this level often requires advanced certifications, leadership roles, or working in high-cost regions with significant responsibilities.

Are there remote embedded software jobs?

Yes, embedded software engineering roles are increasingly available as remote positions, especially for experienced developers familiar with programming languages like C and C++. These jobs often require knowledge of hardware interfaces, debugging tools, and sometimes certifications, and may involve collaboration through online communication platforms.

What are part time remote embedded software jobs?

Part time remote embedded software jobs involve developing, testing, and maintaining software that runs on embedded systems, such as microcontrollers or specialized hardware, while working fewer than full-time hours and from a remote location. Responsibilities typically include writing code in languages like C or C++, debugging embedded systems, and collaborating with team members online. These roles are popular among professionals seeking flexible work schedules or balancing other commitments. Companies may hire part time remote embedded software engineers for specific projects, ongoing maintenance, or to supplement in-house teams. Remote work requires strong communication skills and experience with collaborative development tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Remote Embedded Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Remote Embedded Software Engineer, you need a solid understanding of embedded systems, C/C++ programming, and real-time operating systems, often backed by a degree in computer engineering or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, debugging tools, and microcontroller development kits is typically required. Excellent time management, problem-solving ability, and strong written communication are crucial for effective remote collaboration and project delivery. These skills ensure high-quality software development, efficient teamwork, and the ability to meet project goals independently in a remote environment.

Job description

Join Shift Collab — Build a Caseload That's Truly Yours

At Shift Collab, we're a women-led, award-winning collective of over 100 Social Workers and Psychotherapists reshaping virtual mental health care across Canada. We're growing fast, and we're looking for therapists who want to be part of building something real. This is a contractor role.

A note up front: we're a gym, not a spa. You'll need to show up ready to engage. No waiting for things to happen. If that energy fits you, keep reading.

One more thing before you read on: this role requires availability during evenings and weekends. That's when our clients need us most, and it's a real part of the job.

Our Hiring Philosophy

Our organization is deeply committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace. We wholeheartedly welcome applications from women, members of racialized groups, visible minorities, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation, and persons of any gender identity, or gender expression. We are also committed to ensuring that each individual will have genuine, open, and unhindered access to employment opportunities within our company. Accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities throughout the recruitment process. If you require accommodations for interviews or other meetings, please let us know.

What This Role Actually Looks Like

We invest heavily in growing your caseload through marketing, client matching, and a strong referral engine. What we need from you is a partner in that effort: someone who shows up consistently, runs excellent Meet and Greet sessions, converts those into long-term clients, and builds the kind of trust that keeps people coming back. We do the heavy lifting on visibility and ops.

What We Handle, So You Don't Have To

Billing, scheduling, client intake admin, tech, EMR, and back-office support, all covered. Plus marketing initiatives that spotlight your specialties and bring clients your way. Your time goes to clinical work and client relationships.

What You'll Bring
  • Strong Meet and Greet sessions that build trust and convert prospective clients into long-term care
  • Consistent, high-quality care that retains clients over time
  • Active partnership with our marketing team: your voice, your specialties, our reach
  • A mindset that treats caseload growth as part of the job, not someone else's problem
Why Therapists Stay
  • Flexibility with consistency. Set your own hours and work from home. Part-time starts at 10 hours/week, full-time at 20 hours. Enough to give clients reliable care and you a sustainable rhythm.
  • A real community. Peer supervision, team meetings, and knowledge-sharing. Even fully remote, you won't feel like you're working alone.
  • Marketing that actually moves the needle. We spotlight your specialties and bring clients to your door with your help. You meet them well and keep them coming back.
  • Ongoing learning. Workshops, supervision, and expert-led PD so you stay sharp and current.
  • Compensation that grows with you. Our fee-split model is structured so the more you build, the more you earn. Use our earnings calculator on the careers page to see what your caseload could look like.
Who Thrives Here

Therapists who:

  • Deliver high-quality, accessible virtual care
  • Excel at Meet and Greet sessions and know how to turn a first conversation into a strong therapeutic match
  • Take retention seriously; clients feel cared for and stay
  • See caseload growth as a shared effort and are ready to actively assist
  • Are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to working with a diverse client base
  • Are available evenings and weekends, when many clients need us most
  • Want a long-term partnership.
What You Bring
  • Master's in Social Work or Counselling Psychology, registered as an MSW RSW or RP
  • 5+ years of post-licensure experience
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Reliable internet and a secure, private workspace
  • Strong virtual therapy skills and comfort with telehealth platforms
  • Specialized experience (e.g., trauma, perinatal, mood disorders, ADHD, gender-affirming care, relationships) and certification in evidence-based modalities
  • Additional languages are a strong asset
  • A genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to working with a diverse client base
  • You're looking for a long-term partnership
  • Professional references and a Vulnerable Sector Check required for all successful candidates
