What is a part time real estate job?

A Part Time Real Estate job typically involves working as a real estate agent or assistant while maintaining a flexible schedule. Part-time agents help clients buy, sell, or rent properties but may handle fewer transactions than full-time agents. This role is ideal for those looking to earn extra income or transition into a full-time real estate career. Licensing requirements vary by state, so it's important to check local regulations. Success often depends on networking, market knowledge, and time management skills.

What does a typical work week look like for someone in a part time real estate position?

A typical week for a part-time real estate professional often includes a mix of client meetings, property showings, following up on leads, and handling paperwork for active transactions, usually scheduled around your availability and clients’ needs. The workload can fluctuate depending on the season and local market activity, making flexibility and organization essential. Part-time agents may work independently or as part of a brokerage team, attending team meetings or training sessions as needed. This structure allows you to build your real estate career while balancing other personal or professional commitments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a part time real estate position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Part Time Real Estate role, you need a solid understanding of property market trends, effective sales techniques, and a valid real estate license recognized in your state. Exceptional interpersonal skills, time management, and proactive networking abilities help candidates stand out in this position. These skills are crucial for successfully attracting clients, managing transactions efficiently, and balancing flexible hours with meeting sales goals.

Is it worth it to be a part time real estate agent?

Part time real estate agents can earn commissions based on property sales, but income varies widely depending on market conditions, effort, and experience. It often requires flexible scheduling, strong networking skills, and relevant licensing, making it suitable for those balancing other commitments. However, it may limit earning potential compared to full-time agents and requires self-motivation and time management.

You'll begin by supporting our Treasure Valley sales team, learning our sales process and assisting in model homes. The long-term plan for this role is to relocate to Twin Falls as business needs develop and advance into a new home sales position following a successful transfer.

Relocation to Twin Falls is required for this career path. Candidates should apply only if they are prepared to make that move within approximately one year. The timing will depend on community openings, business needs, training progress, and individual performance.

Why New Home Star?

Real Growth: Opportunities for growth into full-time roles and continuous learning.
Award-Winning Culture: Supportive, high-energy team with leadership dedicated to your success, recognized in 2025 as the Best Place to Work in Real Estate and Glassdoor's Best Places to Work.
Volunteer Opportunities: Encouraged time and financial resources to give back to your local community in meaningful ways.

What You'll Do

  • Support the sales team and help provide an exceptional experience for prospective homebuyers.
  • Learn the new home sales process, customer relationship practices, and community operations.
  • Greet and assist all visitors to the model home, creating a welcoming and professional atmosphere that reflects our brand.
  • Support the sales team with day-to-day tasks, including answering calls, managing emails, generating reports, and preparing documents.
  • Track and log visitor activity, collecting guest information and feedback to support follow-up and sales insights.
  • Assist with marketing efforts, such as social media support, community events, flyer distribution, and signage placement.
  • Maintain the model home's appearance, ensuring it stays clean, organized, and ready for showings at all times.
  • Complete structured training with support from an experienced mentor, preparing for a future sales opportunity in the Twin Falls market.
  • Obtain and maintain an Idaho real estate license before being promoted to a sales role.

What We're Looking For

  • Availability: Work Monday through Friday and some weekends - flexibility is key in a fast-moving market.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in an administrative, customer-facing, or professional setting is a plus, but not required. Recent graduates and candidates currently pursuing a real estate license are also encouraged to apply.
  • Skills: A willingness to learn, accept coaching, and grow into greater responsibility while demonstrating strong communication, organization, customer service, dependability, professionalism, flexibility, and a team-first attitude.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in utilizing different tech tools.
  • Education: High school diploma is required; some college coursework is preferred.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and liability insurance on your vehicle.
  • A genuine interest in building a long-term career in new home sales.
  • The ability and firm commitment to relocate from Boise to Twin Falls when the position transitions.
  • Willingness to obtain an Idaho real estate license independently before promotion.

Compensation and Career Path

  • This is a part-time job, averaging around 30 hours/week with an hourly pay of $18.
  • Initial location: Boise/Treasure Valley, Idaho
  • Training: Hands-on experience, mentorship, and an eight-week development program
  • Expected future location: Twin Falls, Idaho
  • Advancement: Following a successful transfer, completion of training, satisfactory performance, fulfillment of licensing requirements, and the availability of a sales opening.

Promotion and timing will depend on individual readiness, successful relocation, business needs, and community availability.

Important Relocation Requirement

This is not intended to be a permanent Boise-based assistant position. The person hired should view the Boise assignment as the training and development stage of a career path leading to Twin Falls. If you're eager to learn the new home sales business, grow with a strong team, and ultimately build your career in Twin Falls, we'd like to hear from you.
