Job description

Mission
The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County (DAP) works to prevent domestic violence and empower victims to move towards self-sufficiency.
Purpose
The Crisis Counselor Intern supports the mission of DAP by providing crisis and supportive counseling on the hotline and to walk-ins.
Internship
Internship for Spring 2026 will commence on January 21st and run until May 9th
Application deadline December 6, 2025
Classification: Part Time - Unpaid (2-3 days a week preferred)
Additional: Eligible for academic credit
Educational Requirement: Currently pursuing or recently graduated from an academic degree in social work, counseling or related field
Essential Duties
  • Deliver crisis intervention, safety planning, and counseling, to individuals who have experienced domestic violence through the 24-hour hotline and through crisis appointments and subsequent visits
  • Identify opportunities to provide relocation and other services
  • Develop individual safety and services plans
  • Timely completion of chart documentation, filing, assigned end of day tasks, monthly counseling statistics, and indirect hours
  • Assist with administrative tasks, as required
  • Timely submission of monthly statistics
  • Maintain knowledge of other service providers so as to be able to provide appropriate information and referrals
  • Work cooperatively with other DAP staff to ensure holistic response and service delivery
  • Participate in occasional meetings or trainings with Counseling staff to ensure up-to-date training and skill development
  • Assist supervisor and task supervisors with other tasks as needed
  • Come prepared to supervision with agenda, questions related to direct and non-direct client work and personal notes from client sessions
  • Adhere to Code of Ethics amp; agency policies
Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening
  • Support effective resolution of complex or sensitive disagreements or conflicts
  • Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect
  • Ability to work well independently, setting high standards of performance for self and assuming responsibility and accountability for successful completion of assignments or tasks
  • Ability to work well with others, promoting commitment within the team to achieve goals and objectives
  • Interest in delivering trauma-informed human services in a complex environment, placing a high value on creating an environment that embraces and appreciates diversity
  • Maintain confidentiality, honesty, and professionalism in all interactions
  • Willingness to learn the dynamics of domestic violence, understanding of the social service system, and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and in a multi-disciplinary setting
Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in an office setting
Other Requirements
  • Successful completion of required organizational training
  • Satisfactory Criminal Background Check and other organizationally required clearances
  • Work Hours: M-F 8:30-4:30 (2-3 days preferred availability)
