How much do part time ranch hand jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time ranch hand in the United States is $17.39, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $19.47 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are part time ranch hands?

Part time ranch hands are workers who assist with the daily operations and maintenance of a ranch, but do so on a part-time basis rather than full-time. Their duties often include feeding and caring for livestock, cleaning stalls, repairing fences, and helping with general upkeep. They may also assist with planting or harvesting crops, depending on the ranch's focus. Part time ranch hands are valuable for ranches that need extra help during busy seasons or for specific tasks but don't require a full-time employee. This role typically requires physical stamina, a willingness to work outdoors, and basic knowledge of animal care or agriculture.

What is the difference between Part Time Ranch Hand vs Farm Worker?

AspectPart Time Ranch HandFarm Worker
CredentialsNone required, some experience preferredNone required, entry-level
Work EnvironmentRanches, outdoor, variable weatherFarms, outdoor, seasonal
Employer & IndustryRanching operations, livestock managementAgricultural farms, crop and livestock work
Work HoursPart-time, flexible scheduleVaries, often seasonal or full-time

Both roles involve outdoor agricultural work, but a Part Time Ranch Hand typically focuses on livestock and ranch maintenance with flexible hours, while a Farm Worker may handle crops or general farm tasks, often with more seasonal or full-time commitments.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Part time ranch hand roles typically do not pay $4,000 a week; high earnings in such jobs usually require full-time work, specialized skills, or experience. Jobs that can pay this amount without a degree often include skilled trades like commercial fishing, certain sales positions, or entrepreneurship, but these are less common in part-time roles and often depend on commission or seasonal income.

Do ranch hands make money?

Ranch hands typically earn an hourly wage or salary, with pay rates varying based on experience, location, and responsibilities. On average, they make between $10 and $20 per hour, and some positions may include room and board or additional benefits. Compensation can increase with skills such as animal handling or equipment operation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Ranch Hand, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Ranch Hand, you need basic animal husbandry skills, physical stamina, and experience with farm equipment or machinery, though formal education is not always required. Familiarity with tools like tractors, ATVs, fencing equipment, and sometimes basic first aid or safety certifications is valuable. Strong work ethic, reliability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for working independently or as part of a small team. These abilities are crucial for maintaining daily ranch operations, ensuring animal welfare, and supporting overall productivity.

Can you be a ranch hand with no experience?

Yes, entry-level ranch hand positions often do not require prior experience, as employers may provide on-the-job training for tasks such as animal care, fencing, and equipment operation. Basic physical fitness, willingness to learn, and a good work ethic are typically more important than experience for starting out in this role.

How much do ranch hands get paid an hour?

Ranch hands typically earn between $12 and $20 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the specific duties involved. Entry-level positions may pay closer to the lower end, while experienced ranch hands or those with specialized skills can earn higher wages. Overtime and seasonal work may also affect overall pay rates.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time ranch hands, and how can they be managed effectively?

Part-time ranch hands often face challenges such as adapting to variable schedules, working in changing weather conditions, and quickly learning diverse tasks like animal care, fencing, and equipment operation. It can be demanding to balance these physical tasks with safety and time management, especially when coordinating with full-time staff or covering for others. Effective communication with supervisors and a willingness to ask questions can help manage these challenges, as can maintaining flexibility and a strong work ethic. Building a foundational knowledge of ranch operations and staying proactive about safety can make daily responsibilities more manageable.

Who you are

The Golf Facilities Lead is a hands-on facilities manager who understands what it takes to keep a driving range operating at a high standard. Weโ€™re looking for a mechanically minded leader with experience maintaining equipment, managing preventative maintenance schedules, and overseeing property systems from ball pickers and dispensers to lighting, irrigation, and technology.

This role combines technical skill with strong organization and follow-through; anticipating issues, prioritizing repairs, and managing vendor support while leading a team of maintenance techs and range employees. Our ideal candidate thrives on excellence and ensuring that every aspect of the rangeโ€™s infrastructure supports a consistent, high-quality experience for guests and staff alike.

What you'll do

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, schedule, and coach Golf Maintenance Techs and range employees
  • Provide training on equipment use, safety, and daily operating standards
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and pride in operational excellence

Range Operations & Maintenance

  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment including pickers, ball washers, dispensers, and Toptracer systems
  • Oversee ball collection, washing, and dispensing to ensure quality and availability
  • Manage turf upkeep, light landscaping, and overall property presentation to Golf Ranch brand standards

Facilities & Vendor Management

  • Inspect buildings, lighting, and infrastructure regularly to identify repair or renovation needs
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for repairs, preventative maintenance, and service contracts
  • Plan and track annual maintenance projects to extend the life of property assets

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a safe work environment through adherence to health, safety, and equipment standards
  • Keep certifications, maintenance logs, and inspections up to date
  • Respond promptly to facility or equipment issues to minimize downtime and protect the guest experience

Requirements

What youโ€™ll need

    • 2+ years of facilities, turf management, or golf maintenance experience
    • Prior leadership experience with the ability to coach and mentor a team
    • Proven ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment in a high-volume environment
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with consistent follow-through
    • Flexibility to work full time with variable hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
    • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for extended periods

Bonus Points

    • Experience in golf, entertainment, or hospitality venues
    • Familiarity with Toptracer, POS systems, or other operational technologies
    • Background in preventative maintenance planning or facilities management

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, and interact with guests for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, and set up items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Comfort working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, including outdoors in varying weather conditions

These points highlight the core parts of the job, but day-to-day duties may shift. Weโ€™re committed to providing reasonable accommodations so team members of all abilities can succeed.
