Job description

Part-Time Accounting Manager, QuickBooks & Management Reporting

Part-time | Schaumburg, Illinois | Hybrid
$45-$65 per hour, depending on experience

ABC Wildlife/Landmark Pest Management is seeking an experienced Part-Time Accounting Manager to strengthen the financial systems, departmental reporting and recurring accounting processes of our midsized service business.

We are looking for someone with strong accounting fundamentals, excellent QuickBooks skills and the ability to work directly with detailed financial and operational data. This person will work with company leadership, our existing accounting and revenue-operations team, and our outside accounting advisers to create reliable, repeatable financial reporting that supports management decision-making.

Our priorities include strengthening department-level P&Ls, improving the organization and use of QuickBooks, reconciling operational data with the general ledger, refining customer and revenue classifications, and creating efficient monthly management reporting.

What You Will Own

  • Evaluate and improve our QuickBooks setup, including the chart of accounts, classes/locations, departmental structure and management-reporting configuration.
  • Build and maintain reliable department-level P&Ls that reconcile to the consolidated company P&L.
  • Implement consistent customer and revenue classification rules and related controls.
  • Reconcile PestPac operational and revenue data to QuickBooks and investigate discrepancies.
  • Develop recurring monthly reporting for revenue, gross margin, operating expenses and departmental profitability.
  • Implement and maintain consistent methodologies for allocating shared expenses.
  • Strengthen month-end close and reconciliation procedures.
  • Maintain accurate balance-sheet reconciliations.
  • Review transaction-level detail when reporting questions or discrepancies arise.
  • Document accounting and reporting procedures so they can be followed consistently.
  • Work collaboratively with our accounting and revenue-operations team to maintain the processes that are established.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate has experience as an Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller or similar role in a small or midsized operating company.

Strong candidates will have experience with QuickBooks, departmental or cost-center accounting, management P&Ls, month-end close, balance-sheet reconciliations, customer and revenue classification, expense allocations, general-ledger reconciliations, Excel and detailed financial data, and management reporting.

Experience reconciling an accounting system with an operational, CRM or field-service system is particularly valuable.

Experience in a field-service business such as pest control, HVAC, plumbing, restoration, landscaping, facilities services, security or another multi-department service organization is a plus.

A CPA is not required. Strong accounting fundamentals, attention to detail, sound judgment and the ability to produce reliable financial reporting are more important than credentials alone.

Initial Priorities and Success

During the first four to six months, the primary focus will be establishing reliable department-level P&Ls, strengthening the QuickBooks reporting structure, and creating a repeatable reconciliation between our operational and accounting systems.

The goal is monthly financial reporting that is accurate, timely, understandable and maintainable by our internal team.

Expected Time Commitment

We anticipate approximately 15-20 hours per week initially, with flexibility depending on the candidate and the work required.

The ongoing time commitment may decrease once the reporting structure and recurring processes are well established.

Compensation and Benefits

$45-$65 per hour, depending on experience.

Benefits: Discuss benefits based on whether the candidate elects to be an employee, or a contractor. Both are welcome to apply.

To Apply

Please send a resume and a brief note describing a situation in which you personally:

  • improved or restructured QuickBooks or another accounting system;
  • built department-level or business-unit P
  • reconciled operational data to the general ledger;
  • improved revenue or customer classifications;
  • strengthened month-end close and reconciliations; or
  • created recurring management reporting.

We are particularly interested in hearing what you inherited, how you evaluated it, what you changed and how you validated the resulting financial information.

This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable working directly in QuickBooks, Excel and detailed source data.
