About The Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) manages and supports implementation of the Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCTP) regulation (49 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) Part 672) and other transit safety courses. The PTSCTP establishes a training curriculum to enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals who conduct safety audits and examinations of public transportation systems operated by public transportation agencies, and those who are directly responsible for safety oversight of public transportation agencies. Designated State Safety Oversight Agency and Rail Transit Agency employees and contractors are required to participate in and complete the PTSCTP.
The Office of System Safety, in FTA's Office of Transit Safety and Oversight (TSO), is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of safety-related training courses. One responsibility is to convert the existing rail transit PTSCTP courses from traditional face-to-face instructor-led formats to 100% online blended learning formats. The conversion will serve to increase transit stakeholders' access to the PTSCTP required courses and other transit safety courses and will lower the burden and cost for participants to complete required courses.
