Job description

Senior QA-NDT Inspector

Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Senior QA-NDT Inspector to oversee shipyard operations in Norfolk, VA.
The Senior QA-NDT Inspector is responsible for conducting, documenting, and maintaining records associated with inspection per customer and contractual requirements. The Inspector will also perform Non-Destructive Testing in the NDT disciplines they are certified to and document those activities in reports and required forms.
Job Description:
  • Oversee / monitors inspections then document inspection results on required forms.
  • Perform VT, MT, PT, UTT, Shear Wave and UT inspections as required.
  • Analyzes documents, drawing, customer requirements and quality procedures to ensure the Company meets the requirements and standards of the customer.
  • Generate, review and / or submit condition found reports, test and inspection plans, process control procedures, test documents and / or corrective action reports (CAR) as required to document customer requirements or non-conformances.
  • Inventories and maintain test equipment and gauges.
  • May be tasked to prepare presentation materials, teaching aids, handouts, etc. and conduct training when requested.
  • Perform audits and / or surveillance as needed or assigned.
  • Work independently to complete responsibilities.
  • Travel to work locations when required, both CONUS and OCONUS.
  • Will abide by all Safety Requirements.
  • Will mentor junior QA/NDT Inspectors.
Qualifications:
  • Must have at least five (5) years’ experience in NDT and Quality Control / Assurance.
  • Must have at least four (4) of the following NDT Certifications; VT, MT, PT, UTT, UT, Shear Wave, CPI/NACE Level II.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to get access to Government Facilities
  • Must understand NAVSEA Standard Items and other Government Specifications.
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Prefer related Department of Defense experience including direct experience with government customer relations.
  • Prefer experience with NAVSEA Standard Items and ISO requirements.
Travel Requirements:
  • Occasional Travel; 25% or less.
Security Requirements:
  • Must be able to access Government facilities and be DBIDS eligible.
  • Position requires US Citizenship.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
  • General shipyard/industrial environment. this type of work has physical demands that require frequent movement up to 65% of the time.
  • Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Hear, talk, and smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
  • A considerable amount of time is spent operating a personal computer.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility and onboard marine vessels.
