Job description

The inpatient pharmacy technician supports pharmacists in providing pharmacy services. The technician is responsible for packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records.

We are expanding with a new, one-million-square-foot, 15-floor,state-of-the-artfacility on Cleveland Clinic Main Campus designed to elevate care for complex neurological conditions - including spine injuries, epileptic seizures, movement disorders, multiplesclerosisand stroke.

As a Pharmacy Technician - Neurology at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, you will support one of the highest-volume inpatient pharmacies, serving diverse service lines including general inpatient care, sterile products, the operating room, pediatrics, and mainly the growing neurology specialty. In this role, you will collaborate closely with pharmacists, pharmacy leadership, fellow technicians, and the broader patient care team, including physicians, nurses, and support staff. You will help ensure safe and timely medication distribution through accurate preparation, delivery, inventory management, and use of systems such as EPIC, Pyxis, carousel, and MAR messaging. Caregivers in this role work days, evenings, or nights and receive training in controlled substances, sterile and non-sterile compounding, oncology support, triage, and phone-based coordination, making this a dynamic opportunity to build advanced inpatient pharmacy skills.

A caregiver in this position works variable shifts, including 6:45am-3:15pm or 2:00pm-10:30pm, and works every third weekend.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterilecompoundingand sterile compounding.

  • Deliver medications to theappropriate storagelocations inan accurateandtimelymanner.

  • Maintainaccurateandappropriate inventoriesof medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.

  • Maintain a safe and clean work area bycomplying withprocedures, rules and regulations, anddocumentregulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduledactivitiesand training.

  • Use information systems,technologyand automation to complete assigned tasks.

  • Assistwiththe training ofpharmacycaregiversand students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program

  • Upon hire,you mustbe a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).

  • In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it isrequiredto hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee

  • Please note:Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrationsare required toupdate their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months

  • Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Six months of inpatient hospital and IV Sterile Compounding experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $21.50

Maximum hourly: $31.00
