Job Summary:
The Master Data Management (MDM) Specialist is a key contributor to the effective management of master data at Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Reporting to the Manager, MDM & Data/AI, the MDM Specialist will focus on ensuring data governance, implementing MDM solutions, and executing best practices to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility across the organization. This role collaborates closely with various stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making and contribute to the district's mission of providing a world-class education for every child.
This position will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
โ€ข Assist in the development and implementation of MDM policies, procedures, and standards; Contribute to the design and implementation of data quality rules and workflows; Contribute to the development of MDM documentation and knowledge resources.
โ€ข Ensure adherence to data governance principles and best practices.
โ€ข Participate in the evaluation and selection of MDM tools and technologies.
โ€ข Perform data profiling and analysis to identify data quality issues.
โ€ข Implement data cleansing and enrichment processes to improve data accuracy and completeness.
โ€ข Monitor data quality metrics and report on key performance indicators.
โ€ข Collaborate with business users to define and document master data requirements; Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand their data needs and ensure alignment with MDM principles.
โ€ข Manage and maintain master data across various domains (e.g., student data, staff data, school data); Ensure data consistency and integrity across different systems and applications.
โ€ข Stay current with the latest advancements in MDM technologies and best practices.
โ€ข Under the direction of the Manager, Master Data Management, provide support to the Data Analysts to deliver high-quality work with an exceptional level of accuracy and compliance.
โ€ข Other duties as assigned.
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, this position must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
โ€ข Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is required.
โ€ข Bachelor's degree with major in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field is preferred.
Experience Required:
โ€ข A minimum of 5 years of experience in data management, data integration, or related fields including the following is required:
โ€ข Experience with master data management, with a focus on data quality and governance.
โ€ข Experience with data profiling, data cleansing, and data enrichment techniques.
โ€ข Experience with MDM tools, technologies, and platforms is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
โ€ข Strong understanding of MDM principles, concepts, and best practices.
โ€ข Familiarity with data modeling and data integration concepts.
โ€ข Proficiency in SQL and data analysis tools.
โ€ข Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
โ€ข Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
โ€ข Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
โ€ข Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
