Major Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations & Fiscal Officer, Global HSI Equity Innovation Hub, and Firme Coding Project Leads, the Firme Coding Initiative Facilitator supports the implementation, technical guidance, and evaluation of the Firme Coding Initiative. The incumbent's responsibilities include instructional support, application assistance for specialized programs, technical mentorship, participant progress tracking, and contributing to the overall success of community-focused STEM education.
  • Provides instruction and training in Swift programming, introducing participants to coding concepts, software tools, and project-based applications aligned with learning objectives.
  • Collaborates with Firme Coding Project Leads to support cohort members interested in applying to the Justice Through Code program.
  • Offers clear, step-by-step guidance, troubleshooting assistance, and problem-solving strategies to strengthen fellows' coding skills.
  • Tracks and monitors participant progress through detailed documentation of attendance, engagement, and performance outcomes.
  • Assists in preparing program evaluation summaries and reports, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field, Computer Science is preferred.
  • Relevant education and/or experience, which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above, may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience teaching coding and technical concepts in educational, workforce development, or training settings, including curriculum delivery and student engagement, is highly desirable.
  • Experience with swift and additional programming languages, including Java, JavaScript, Python, Racket, and C++, with the ability to apply these skills in instructional and project-based learning environments is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver inclusive, engaging, and project-based coding instruction in Swift programming while adapting instructional approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles, foster collaboration, and promote participant engagement in educational or workforce development environments.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and program support skills with the ability to coordinate instructional resources, collaborate effectively with project stakeholders, maintain a positive learning environment, and travel locally to support outreach events, community partnerships, and program-related activities throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide individualized and group-based guidance to program applicants, including explaining eligibility requirements, application processes, deadlines, and interview preparation while fostering confidence, engagement, and successful program participation.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills with the ability to coordinate informational sessions, support applicant readiness, serve as an effective liaison between participants and external programs, and resolve routine issues to ensure successful application completion and ongoing participant support.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • Classification: 0453 / Instructional Design/Technologist I / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $ 5787 - $ 6141 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $ 5787 - $ 8430 per month.
  • HOURS: Part Time; 29 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends. May be required travel to local community partner sites, outreach events, and program-related meetings
  • This is a Temporary position; end date to be determined.
  • The position is currently hybrid 5 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
