POSITION OPENING: Part-Time Transportation Dispatcher
.5 FTE
Salary: $22.35 per hour
Schedule: M-F2:00 pm-6:00 pm, while students are in session
Ability to pick up driving routes as needed
IN THIS ROLE: Join a passionate team at Avondale School District where innovation, collaboration, and student-centered learning thrive. As a transportation dispatcher, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students by coordinating bus routes, supporting drivers, and maintaining effective daily communication. The ideal candidate will be detail-orientated, demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, and have the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful situations.
WHAT WE NEED:
  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • CDL license Type CB with PS and Air Brake endorsement
  • Must be able to consistently work the schedule listed above
  • Meet DOT physical examination requirements
  • Meet the Michigan school bus driver certification requirements
  • Meet state and federal requirements for licensing
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication`
  • Strong interpersonal and public relations skills
  • Basic computer skills

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize daily bus routes using routing software
  • Excellent technical skills with the ability to manage routing software, GPS systems, and student databases.
  • Coordinate special education, general education, and special program transportation needs
  • Adjust routes due to enrollment changes, road closures, weather conditions, or staffing needs
  • Ensure routes comply with state and federal transportation regulations
  • Monitor daily routes and respond to transportation issues in real time
  • Communicate effectively with drivers and the community via radio and phone
  • Coordinate substitute drivers and vehicle assignments
  • Provide support during emergencies or unexpected service disruptions
  • Serve as a point of contact for parents, school staff, and administrators regarding transportation concerns
  • Maintain accurate student transportation records
  • Collaborate with school offices to ensure timely updates to routing information
  • Maintain reports, logs, and transportation documentation
  • Assist with student counts and route efficiency reviews
  • Support department initiatives and compliance requirements
  • Transport students via school bus on an emergency basis.
