The Baker is responsible for safely and efficiently preparing, baking, and finishing cakes, breads, pastries, and specialty baked goods, including traditional Mexican and Central American recipes. Bakers ensure consistency in quality, appearance, and freshness, while providing exceptional customer service and supporting Vallarta Supermarkets’ high standards for safety and cleanliness.
What You’ll Do:
  • Customer Service: Greet customers with a smile and assist with bakery and cake orders in-store or by phone.
  • Baking & Preparation: Prepare doughs, batters, and mixtures for breads, cakes, and pastries; monitor oven and proofer temperatures to ensure consistent quality.
  • Merchandising: Stock and rotate baked goods, maintain attractive displays, and promote sales through suggestive selling.
  • Food Safety: Follow Vallarta’s Bakery Safety Program, practice proper sanitation, and comply with health code regulations.
  • Teamwork: Assist coworkers, report unsafe acts or equipment, and support a clean, organized, and friendly department environment.
  • Operations: Accurately pack, weigh, and price merchandise; minimize waste; transport products to and from coolers and storage areas.
  • Other Duties: Support department needs by cleaning equipment, maintaining countertops, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
  • Stand and walk for long periods (6–8 hours/day).
  • Frequently bend neck/waist, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Frequent grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine hand manipulation.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (e.g., flour, sugar, boxes).
  • Longest distance carried: 20 feet.
  • Work near bakery equipment and in environments with varying temperatures and humidity.
  • May be required to perform tasks at elevated levels (placing or retrieving items).
